Im interested by this, i will have a go at the demo and make a decision then.

Reading those IGN and Eurogamer previews, features like "Combination Play" and "Heart" were in iss98. Which for me is a good thing. I think FIFA got stale after 08 so i might give PES ago if its closer to the N64 version.

OPM sharing the love

http://www.officialplaystationmagazine. ... uture#prev

This impressive fluidity extends to passing and shooting looking (and feeling) significantly more natural, and contextual deflections and mishits providing an authenticity the series hasn’t had since 2005.

Granted, this was all true of FIFA yonks ago, but the change is better late than never. Particularly when you couple this new ball tech to a big upgrade in player physics. Using momentum and turns of pace, it’s now possible to beat an opposition player through timing, i.e. speeding forwards or darting away diagonally at the second he commits to a tackle. In this regard I’d actually say PES is now ahead of FIFA, where it often feels as though the only way to beat a man is with a zany trick

See, funny thing: I’ve played new PES – a lot of it – and it’s shaping up surprisingly well. Short of forking out millions on Doloreans and Spielbergs and the rights to toe-tappy Huey Lewis hits, this is the closest you’ll get to actually going back to the future – because new PES feels very much like old PES. And I mean good old PES with Collina on the cover and Zidane pulling the strings in midfield and Roberto Larcos whamming home mega-bendy free kicks, not naughty old PES with shots juddering as they whiz over the crossbar and ‘I want to go, go to the goal’ assaulting your lugholes between matches.

Not to burst the bubble but OPM gave PES 2013 8/10.

And? The game averaged 81.5% from reviewers, so it's not like 8/10 is a crazy score.

FIFA 13 averaged 86.6, so the gap's started to close since 2011 where FIFA peaked and PES was in a ditch.

I'd just be very cautious about previews.

yep i would be cautious, a lot of people like to support the underdog and even though pro evo is looking better in the new engine i would wait and see how it plays.

And PES 2013 was a good game...so I'm not sure why that would burst anyone's bubble.

Any game that get an average review score of over 80% is a good game, whether you like it or not.

I've played a ridiculous amount of PES 2013 at my mates, it's a great football game. Most of the time it was co-op Master League though, if that makes any difference.

I've always been a Pro Evo fan, and have never been fully able to get along with the FIFA Series.

However I have fallen slightly disillusioned with the Series over the past few years. All of the current Gen versions have felt like lazy rehashes to me, and none have grabbed me like the old games used to.

This is all despite the Previews each year that claim that "Pro Evo is Back!!! etc"

....then you play it, and it's...OK.... but it never really fully regained it's crown as "biggest Time sink goto multiplayer 4 people in my Livingroom screaming at each other" game that the older games use to be in my eyes.

Having said all that, these game play video's released so far have looked fantastic. They really seem to have improved on things that are actually important.

I am ever increasingly optimistic about what this new iteration will bring to us from every Video I see.

But I'm still being cautious

Because they have lied to me before.

You give far too much credit to review scores.

PES 2013 is significantly better than any PES has been this generation.

Its definitely a 'good game' even if it might not quite be a classic.

Seeing as some of them have been fairly shambolic, it wouldn't have been hard. It's still not a very good football game, if that's a win because every other PES this generation has been "awful", then fair enough. The online side of it is still embarrassing, the stats used for players, much like the loading screens and menus, are about a decade out of date. The goalkeepers are pathetic, referees frustrating, the ball moves like a marble on a felt table and the animations are still clunky. The use of pace and power is arguably worse than FIFA's, there's some clear shenanigans going on when it comes to throttling speed in order to find a balance. It's also harder to hide all that when the competition has been improving.

Hopefully PES 2014 is a lot better.

Really like the way Dante stumbles when he clips Ballotelli's heel, similar to how a player will hold his hands up and back off when they're worried about giving away a free kick.

Speed is also correct following feedback about the E3 demo being too slow.
