Yep... and it's a bit disappointing. I've only played online friendlies due to the reported problems with matches dropping out.

Generally games have been lag-free, but so slow. Players seem to react a second after a button is pressed or a movement is made, making it very difficult to put moves together. There's too much focus by the game engine on player-to-player physicality; player animations are excellent but at the expense of responsiveness. For some reason it also seems tough to strike the ball with any degree of power. There's also a bug where players always try and stop the ball rather than just striking it, making snap-shots virtually impossible.

And yet... there's somehing about it. After a few minutes of running past the ball and missing easy chances, all of a sudden a move can play out as desired and it feels great. The game has a kernal of potential at its heart but there are so many niggles at present. Konami have advised that a software update will release in November and that it will address many of these issues. I hope so; there's no doubting that the full game was released in a poor state, but there is still a chance that the game could eventually shine.

Damn, hopefully the issues will be sorted next month.

I'm not particularly bothered about modes, I'm just happy to keep playing friendlies 1v1.

When I load this game on my PC it only opens in windowed mode and there seems to be no way to change it. Any ideas?

I hadn't played this for a bout a week and booted it up about an hour ago.

It downloaded a patch, and the game now to me feels vastly improved. Quicker, smoother and not much less unresponsive. (Still can't DL the datapack)

Can anyone confirm this, or am I just imagining things?

I've just downloaded the new patch and data pack [PS3] and, I gotta say, the game plays a lot better. I played an offline game followed by an online game and the general responsiveness has really improved. Before the patch it felt like the game was being played in treacle whereas now it plays smoothly and efficiently.

I'm surprised; this is how the game should have been right from the off, but at least it has got there now. I will plough a bit more time into it but it feels good at present :-).

I've played five online games today and the gameplay feels so much better than upon release. The (PS3) patch has improved responsiveness - players react far quicker to your prompts - and lag is now a rare occurrence. The player-to-player physical impacts have also been improved; it no longer causes frustrating collisions every few seconds.

I'm still adjusting to the flow and timing of the game as it is different to the 2013 version, but I'm surprisingly impressed that the gameplay has been improved to such a great degree. I stilll feel that the game was released in a poor and incomplete state, but at least we've got there now. If you've got the game, it's definitely worth giving it another go.

PES 2014 is currently reduced from £39.99 to £15.99 for PS3 on the PSN store as part of the "12 Sales of Christmas" offer.

Brilliant for those folk who held off buying it at forty snoops and awaited the recent update that make the game playable and fun; a bit of a kick in the nuts for those who bought it on release. At least there should be more UK players online now.

Once you've put a few hours into it the game it plays really well. There are some annoyances but , hey, what football game doesn't have them.

Initially the game was unplayable online; button presses took ages to take effect and the gameplay experience felt like playing in syrup. But the patch released in November really turned things around. I've since played about twenty matches online and it's been enjoyable... even though I'm a bit ropey at it.

Most players *still* always choose Barca or Real. There is an option to play someone using teams within certain skill categories but no other online players seem to choose this option!

On PS3, the Master League is accessible from [Main Menu], then [Football Life] and [Master League].

I'm a PES fan but have never played the Master League... only ever tried one-off online and offline matches!

Ah okay cool cheers, I could not find it yesterday.

Master League is the reason I will always go back to Pro Evo.

Yeah, I must give that a go sometime. For PES 2013 I played around 800 online single matches... but never tried the other options.

The 2014 version is very different and it's taking me a while to adjust. It's still tough but practice seems to pay off. The menus remain pony and are perhaps worse in this newer version - but once you're on the pitch things are great. Never has a GRcade thread title been so accurate.

I'm finding it very familiar to what I am used to with Pro Evo, the only thing that is different is the through ball. Passing feels tighter too.

Do you know how long that deal is up on the PSN store for? I'm in the process of recovering my account and might pick it up at that price if I can over the next couple of days.
