Those reviews are bullshit. I'd give this festering cancerous tumour 2/10. It's strawberry floating awful.

I don't get why there's so much hate. I can understand that many folk prefer FIFA, but how can there be so much venom based on a small demo? Both PES and FIFA are long-term plays; it takes time to get used to the intricacies... and the bad points.

Hate is a strong word. I think a lot of us are just pissed off that Konami have went a whole generation without improving a lot of the core things in the game.

I mean take goalies for example, they've been gooseberry fool for years now but do they fix that? No. Instead they spend all their time making the game look great but underneath it runs like a turd.

Tried the demo, it immediately looks like a late 90s football game, harsh edged kind of boxy looking players, i got used to it with the second match..i think i said the same thing when I played 2012 though, which has a dry pc game look. 2013 had a heavier slower turning circle when controlling players, its remained, I find it too cumbersome and slow to play. There isn't even a speed settings option. I was trying to play through balls that took 3 seconds to respond and by the time the pass was played it was offside. This happened more than once. I just want a football game where it's fun to move with a player, I want to be Lionel Messi and take on a load of defenders. This is one thing 2012 got perfectly. I've played online numerous times and been able to dribble past players by moving one way and then doing a quick change of direction that is so simple but satisfying. I'm only writing this because I'm waiting for the FIFA demo to download. I still play pro evo2012, I have loads of great passing goals saved, against online opposition. Real passing one two interplay from the half way line that needs a group of players to be in good positions, it can be glorious when it comes off and makes up for the frustration of not being able to shoot from outside the box.

I tried the demo...it was okay. After hearing some of the positive reviews, and reading EG's 9/10 yesterday, I was optimistic that it would be like the glory days of PES 4, but it was just average. Feels to me like one of those sub-par football games from the past, when there used to be several games on the market. Bit like This Is Football on the PS2 or something; okay, but not as good as other games out there.

This. I'm no FIFA fan - I actually dislike that, too - but PES is truly terrible.

I just don't understand the movement of the players. It's so sluggish. Not when they've got the ball, but in that split second before they get it.

I had a ball bouncing in front of Tom Cleverly, 30 yards out, and he was running onto it though I wasn't controlling him. My aim was to nudge it once and then let rip. I pressed L1, control switched to Cleverly just before contact and... he stopped running and sort of trapped the ball. And then I got tackled.

Oh, also, I scored a mid-air scissors kick with RvP the other night and I SWEAR he jumped upwards then glided along in mid air so his foot would connect. I wish I'd videod it.

This whole thing is utter gash and it breaks my heart.

Amazon letdown; no game today. From checking a couple of PES forums it seems that the Xbox version can't be played online yet, whilst there is huge lag in the PS3 version. Hopefully it's server teething issues and I believe that maintenance is in progress.

Oh, and "cancerous tumors"... "90s gaming"... "2/10"... "This Is Football"? *Really*? It's like reading reviews on Amazon :-).

maybe people in 2013 just expect a game to be playable , smooth and fun. I did find the demo ok but after playing more between the two fifa 14 again wins and actually playing FIFA 13 then FIFA 14 i can see what they have been doing to improve the game. PES on the other hand just doesn't look to know what it's doing again, oh and the menu's are crap again. I have no idea how you can strawberry float Up menu's it's simple stuff.

The full game is much better than the demo, and I think maybe I was too hasty in dismissing it. Takes some time to acclimatise, but I've had about five absolute classic games with this already. You really do have to mix up your tactics against different teams, and the 'heart' thing is genius, giving your team real momentum. Nick a goal when you're behind and you've got a great chance of a dramatic comeback, especially when you're at home and the crowd give you a lift.

That's interesting. When you say the full game is better, are the in-game mechanics any different at all? Or do you just mean that you adjust to it given time. I really can't see myself ever adjusting to the way those players move. But perhaps I could if the flow has been smoothed out slightly.

Just tried the PC version of this. Is it using the new Fox engine? I can't tell, looks like the previous one to me. :? Aren't Konami allowed to use player likenesses? Chose West Midlands Village against Norfolk City (Villa vs Norwich), and the majority of the players were completely wrong in appearance. I'd have thought they'd have made an effort with players like Benteke.

First try on the demo on the Xbox 360.

1 half of football. 4 shots, 4 goals. Aerial through-ball -> first time shot -> GOAL! 100% of the time. The defence still parts as though Moses is commanding them :slol: I haven't even owned a PES game since PES 6! Series has clearly moved on a lot if the same tactics still work with the same efficiency :slol:

And then, the first shot that the CPU gets, gentle shot at the keeper who then does the classic PES "palm it out to the closest opposition player for an open goal tap in". My friend then had a go for the second half, he has a gentle shot at the keeper, who then palms it out to another one of his players who reacts like a brick wall when the game eventually lets him change to the right player.

Everything is sluggish, and not in a 'realistic' way. Being able to choose who is taking your throw-ins is nice but everything else is laughable. It's another case of "but this year it's different" and it isn't. It's still pants.

Yeah, I'm out.

Seems that there are problems with the online side; apparently games are very slow compared to offline. Some gamers are speculating that this is due to the servers rather than the code but it's disappointing.

Amazon screwed up on my order so I can't try it myself. It'd be great to hear views from folk who have played the PS3 version of the game (not the demo - I think we've all heard enough about that :-)).

Played 2 games of this so far.

It is very sluggish. Seems to take an age for a player to pass to a team mate, which under the constant pressure results in you losing the ball a lot.

Shooting feels light, although this may just be a change in the way you power up your shots. Not impressed with super Defenders who can still catch you on the turn even though you are playing with Gareth Bale and have a 5 yard head start. Also not happy with Defenders pulling you back when you are about to shoot and getting nothing for it (I appreciate that's realistic, but it's not fun)

Saying that, I did unlock the defense a few times, and found myself in acres of space. Not sure how though.

Not impressed with the sluggish menus, or the way you edit your Formation etc. It all feels very clunky.

Going to try and keep an open mind though till I've played at least half a season.

Thanks, Albear. I guess your games were against the CPU rather than online? It's a bit worrying if offline games were slow. Feedback so far does seem to indicate that the game isn't really completed yet; I wonder if the move to the FOX engine was the right thing to do towards the end of this gen? Perhaps Konami should've worked on the existing engine and developed the new engine for next gen machines. It's as if they've created additional work for themselves in trying to fix existing weak spots and move everything to a new engine.

I'm hoping that the first patch / server changes will rectify the slow online aspects.
