Spot on, I think Anne fills a lot of that role anyway so he wasnt needed. I didnt really miss him at all, I was halfway through season 3 before I realised he wasnt there anymore.

In my opinion, it's sort of what Ann was in season 1. I always thought she was the more credible outsider to the workplace than Mark.

But she's lost a bit as they've made her wackier as the series went on. I suppose her being the straight foil was a bit similar to Karen.

I would compare him to Michael in Arrested Development who often provided set-up for the zanier characters rather than (or as much as) having his own repertoire.

I think your interpretation of him as bland comes down to his losing interest in where he was and in turn the show losing interest in him, necessarily for a natural write-out - or his disappearance would have been very obvious and strange.

Just my opinion though

I see what you mean about that comparison, and yeah I agree he was the "normal" one in the show. The thing is though that Michael, whilst the more normal of the cast, was actually amusing. He had a funny nature about him, you warmed to him, he was likable and funny without needing to be like Tobius for example. Mark was nothing. He was a normal guy without the redeeming features of an interesting normal guy. Take Pete in The League. Normal guy, not overly whacky or anything, but was still funny and a good character. Ann certainly covers that "normal" balancing act though, whilst also being pretty

Not everyone needs to be goofy like Andy or Tom, but they should be likable otherwise what is the point in them?

Yep, got five minutes into the second one before realising I'd missed a whole lot namely their wedding!

Just started watching through Season 4. TREAT YO' SELF. Hoping to catch up with the entire show before it comes back from it's little break.

Found out yesterday that you can download a load of Mouse Rat's songs from their website. 5000 Candles in the Wind is actually a really good song

I've watched parts of series one and two but have skipped to series three. Is a very good show, nice balance of surreal and sweet jokes. Kind of like the Office. And Ron Swanson is my personal hero.

Good move.

Series One is very weak (not many episodes though) and although Series Two is better, Three is when it really gets good.
