The painting wasn't damaged, at least. What a load of pricks. :x

If you think soup is bad, just wait until the National Gallery is under water.

The Gallery have confirmed the painting wasn't damaged so no need to name call people that are just trying to stop us killing the planet.

While I agree with the message behind the protests, I think the acts of petty vandalism actively do damage to their cause by turning the general population against them.

I think glass can handle a bit of soup.

You do realise that this group (and the others who operate under the same umbrella) are the most despised protest movement among the wider population in the country right?

It's not their cause which has done that either.

Painting is undamaged, protestors got in the news, what's the problem?

Sure I'd have preferred them blowing up a pipeline or whatever but I've not done that either so who am I to judge

They're shouting about the world ending and you're getting more upset about some soup on glass.

I don't always agree with their methods (when they put themselves and others in danger at the F1 race for example) but there's nothing wrong with this protest.

They're not doing it to make friends.

As I said in the Politics thread, history will look back kindly on these people.

It could have been worse for Van Gogh. Instead of soup, they might have cut one of his ears off.

I genuinely do think protesting and civil disobedience is the only real way the average person can make a difference to the world, simply asking goverments to change their policies is not always enough.

MLK was one of the most hated men in America at the peak of the civil rights movement. Protests do not exist to chase short-term popularity. Temporarily and harmlessly obscuring a painting is one of the most mild forms of protest I can think of - if you are against this then there clearly isn't any form of protest moderate enough to satisfy you. Climate change is going to kill or displace billions of people. It is going to cause immeasurable suffering and unfathomable destruction. It is already in full swing and not one single person alive today can escape its impact - it's already here. Capitalism is a death cult, and the fact that these meek and polite protests are all we currently have to resist it makes me feel pure abject terror.

Guess you could call that a "Thing That Annoys Me".

Also, I thought we had a rule against posting political content in this thread?

I agree. You want to make people sympathetic to your cause. They aren't doing this.

People really care that much about some glass?
