F1 is not a closed shop like it is now, F1 is not all about the manufacturers it needs privateer teams like Stewart, Minardi, Arrows, Ligiers, to fill the grids. To now be excluding teams that would previously have been able to enter no problem is just so stupidly backwards and hypocritical. Not to mention that in basically saying that unless you're a full works entry that build your own engines, you're not welcome here, sets an enormously dangerous precedent going forward
This sort of thing has happened before too, after the crash of 2008/09, the grid for 2010 could potentially have been decimated.
Over that winter, Toyota had quit, Sauber almost collapsed after BMW pulled out, Renault was in meltdown following crashgate and could have imploded completely, and Brawn could easily have closed down had Merc not come in to buy the team.
Also, had the three new teams for that year been barred from joining, you could have ended up with a 12 car grid.
