So, hacking celebs phones is pretty bad, a nasty invasion of privacy. But it turns out that they also hacked into Milly Dowlers voicemail when she was missing, and deleted messages from it, giving the family false hope. Now that's just sick.

That's despicable. Such low-lifes, I hope people do prison time for this.

Hacking the phone to listen to the messages would have been bad enough. But they deleted messages left on the phone of a missing child? strawberry float me that is low, even for NoTW!

I doubt Cameron can save Brooks this time. What lovely friends he has.

So far this year, I have eaten NO mince pies.

It's strawberry floating horrible. What annoys me is that the people genuinely responsible for it, Rebekah Brooks and that former Bum-Buddy of Cameron won't get so much as a sniff of prosecution as they will have covered their tracks well enough for the lackeys to get all the punishment.

Scumbags.

Yep, I'd imagine that after the previous internal investigations that all evidence linking the editors to this will have been destroyed. I just hope that their are some lower level staff prepared to testify, or maybe someone somewhere had the forethought to copy any hard evidence somewhere.

It's disgusting and puts journalism in a bad light.

This story wont be going away though and neither will the wider phone-hacking story until there's a conclusion and people are punished. And that's due to the good journalism out there and the writers who wont let something that goes against their morals go because it puts them in that bad light.

What I'm finding interesting is that none of the other tabloids are covering the story this morning. I wouldn't be surprised if it turns out they were all at it.

Most likely. Private Eye published some convincing circumstantial evidence a few weeks back that the current editor of The Sun had been using information from phone hacking while he was a showbiz columnist for the paper.

Yes. Pretty despicable, isn't it? By far the biggest news story around, and they're not touching it.

Good summation of the current situation. The bit I love is that John Whittingdale, the chairman of the culture, media and sport select committee claims that this situation shouldn't affect the take-over of Sky by News Corp as the NotW is only one part of the empire. However:

When Today presenter Evan Davies pointed out to the Conservative MP that News International had denied wrongdoings at the News of the World despite having evidence that could suggest hacking was ongoing, Whittingdale responded: "Well, they denied it to my committee."

He added: "We were told that a thorough investigation had been carried out which had produced no evidence. Now, even at that time we expressed considerable doubts as to whether or not that investigation was thorough.

"I think now we can almost certainly conclude that it wasn't, and those are questions which still need to be addressed."

 These strawberry floating politicians are bending over backwards to lick Murdoch's balls no matter what it seems.

The Sun wouldn't cover it anyway, would they?

What about papers owned by other publishers? The story is on the Mirror site but is it also in the newspaper proper? Apparently they weren't averse to a bit of hacking either...

The one who should do time for all of this (and much more besides) is this ****:

Image
Rebekah Brooks

Her filthy fingerprints are all over this. Inexplicably, Murdoch seems to be standing by her, but I suspect it can't be too much longer until she is shown the door (and possibly the inside of a courtroom, if justice has even one good eye).

Yes. Pretty despicable, isn't it? By far the biggest news story around, and they're not touching it.

The Daily Mail are. The Sun meanwhile have published this in-depth analysis on their website:

The Sun wrote:A PRIVATE detective working for the News of the World allegedly hacked into murdered Milly Dowler's voicemail after she went missing.

Police told parents Bob and Sally Dowler of the claim in April, said their solicitor Mark Lewis.

Glenn Mulcaire is said to have accessed 13-year-old Milly's mobile after she was abducted by Levi Bellfield in 2002.

Serial killer Bellfield, 43, got life last month.

The newspaper's owners News International have co-operated with police hacking inquiries.

A spokesman said: "This particular case is a development of great concern and we will conduct our own inquiry."

The News of the World on Sunday should really issue a front page apology.

Excuse my naivety, but do you think the Editors are always aware of stuff like this going on?

Could it not be undertaken secretely without their knowledge? I'm just wondering how hands on the Editor gets when it comes to stuff like this.

Obviously this is completely disgusting behaviour, I'm just wondering how far up it goes.
