I hope whoever I meet isn't a massive dick.

I'm going to be the David Attenbrough of the cosmos, finding new species of animals. Mint.

Does this mean No Man's Sky is an MMO? No, says Murray, although you will meet other players. He compares it to the PlayStation 3 game Journey, where players can drift into your game unexpectedly, making such encounters a potentially more special experience. It's not clear yet whether that'll be through behind-the-scenes matchmaking or just by dint of players' starting planets being so spread out, but it certainly sounds intriguing.

Didn't notice the other IGN interview on that page, good to see him confirming it's not MMO as before I felt they were being deliberately vague on the subject of multiplayer. So you might bump into some random people on a Peer to Peer basis like in Journey. Will be interesting to see how they handle that since Murray mentioned on the GB live show that you can literally lose hundreds of hours worth of progress, by dying I assume.

Well apparently you can't die as such, but you can lose your ship and get stranded in the life pod you start with. At that point you'd basically have to start from scratch, gathering resources and trading up to a new ship. I'm still not sure if you can own multiple ships or not, or just one that you upgrade.

I think my initial strategy would be to build the fastest possible ship and specialise and hauling small but very valuable cargo around, then zipping past anyone who tries to attack me while giving them the finger. Basically I want to own the Millennium Falcon.

We should try to form a GRcadian band of pilots, plotting our paths toward the galactic centre together. :shifty:

Yes and we could have our own bank. I'll be treasurer.

One of the best looking games at E3 this year, can't wait to get stuck into it.

Do we know if they plan to release this at retail or is it purely digital only?

Like most indie games I suspect it'll be download only.

The way Murray was saying that they don't want to talk about a release date because they'd just disappoint people makes me think is like, 2017 at the earliest :( it's certainly the most interesting game we've seen in a while, and I can't wait to see how it develops, but it's such an ambitious project and already the hype has surrounded, I can't help but feel people will be disappointed. It could be absolutely incredible, though.

The hype's going to completely evaporate before this gets a release date, isn't it? :(

I'll be happy if it's a very good 7/10 game which fulfils most of what's been promised and isn't buggy.

That's absolutely not the impression I got. He's been implying that they know when they're aiming to release, but it's not set in stone yet and they don't want to disappoint people should it slip. He's never said that they'd disappoint people by announcing the date as it stands.

I'm so intrigued by this game. The ambition is incredible and I love the styling... yet I'm also puzzled as to how the game will play. It's interesting that the developers have indicated that it will be a rarity for players to cross paths due to the size of the game.

I suspect that the game will evolve to be a breath-taking display of open-world gaming albeit one that is focused more upon exploration rather than interaction with other players. I hope that 'action' sequences are not tagged on unnecessarily; I'd be quite happy to wander across a galaxy with the focus on the journey.

I hope there's a lot of things to find one each planet and it's not just fields with the odd ore lump here and there.

The planets look just like biomes off minecraft. I bet each biome/planet will have a handful of minerals and animals.

I still think building all something is needed desperately. Imagine exploring planets, and finding an abandoned town some player built ages ago.
