Well Spinny did ask me to pull my finger out. :simper: Thanks all. Lovely moment early in the Twomp Ruins race, all 3 Warios slip streaming each other along.

I should be about on Monday.

Oh yeah, let's look at this. It was posted just before we started so it got lost quite easily. I think that we could have Team Mario as the heroes (Mario, Luigi, Yoshi, Toad, Peach, Rosalina) and Team Wario as the villains (Wario, Waluigi, Bowser).

I had a really bad race on Thwomp Ruins before finishing 2nd in DK Jungle and then 3rd on Toad Harbour (sadly Mount Wario didn't get picked in that last round). There are definitely some fire hoppers this week so I'm going to try to practise that before the next heats. I won't use it during GR games. I probably won't get to the finals but I'd like to see how they go so I hope that they're streamed online.

'Fire hopping'... I guess that's some kind of cheat / exploit? It's cool to hear about the Nintendo Life competition, Dragon, but I think the standard would be a bit beyond my level :-). Good luck!

Thanks dood.

At the end of a boost, if you hop (tap the drift button), you can maintain the speed you had during the boost so that you go faster for a little longer. This called is fire hopping. It's an exploit that makes getting the top times in time trials near impossible via 'normal' racing.

It looks like the top racers in the competition are using this because I couldn't get close to the top racer when I moved into my final group this afternoon. The competition is set up so that you switch groups after four races so you're not against the same people all the time. I guess that I was just luck at the start :P

Man, I think I'll hold off from attempting that for a while. How'd you get on in the NintendoLife competition tournament, Dragon?

In results news... I've won a race online! Yes, finally! I was literally jumping out of my seat as I roared over the line :D. Go, Team Toad! I finished last overall in the set of races, though :fp: .

My wee boy's graduated to online races and is loving it. He's also taking not coming first a lot better he used to (and the gamepad is still in one piece!) :)

He's going to like having the new cars as we've unlocked all the models, with only the gold kart and wheels eluding us. Can't believe he's collected the 10,000 coins needed for the glider! Mind you, clocking up 237 hours of playtime made that easier...

When I get a chance, I'm still finding loads of wee techniques and shortcuts and working my way through 150cc, brilliant game.

I was 16th when I finished my set of races but there were still 3 hours left for other players. I'll have another look tonight before Mario Kart Monday if I get a chance.

Congratulations on your online victory! :D You've taken your first step into a larger world.

That sounds like great progress, NBK, and it must he cool to see your lad playing well. 237 hours... wow! I've only played single-player mode once so far; I want to unlock my Mii, though, so I'll have to start soon. Does anyone know what I need to achieve so that I can use my Mii online?

NBK wrote:...Well done! It's a great feeling :)...one that I've only experienced once :fp:

Thanks, dude. I usually finish in the bottom four and I couldn't beleve it when I won! I don't *think* the other racers just let me win...
I'm starting to realise that learning every course is crucial. There are still courses that I'm not too familiar with... and last night I raced on a course that I'd never played before. The GRcade online standard is very high - some of the racers disappear into shortcuts that I didn't even knew exist. All good fun, though.

That's awesome, Dragon. I'd imagine the racers are the best-of-the-best in that tournament.

Thanks, pal - great Star Wars link! I'm still on a high :-).

I'm afraid that I'll be out and will miss the racing tonight. I'll try and put some practice in ahead of the next GRcade racing night.

The problem with this is if we dont have the numbers to fill the grid up then the ai doesn't join in. I think we tried this early on and we settled for Mario/Wario because it was less likely the ai would also choose them. Also because me and Mocky wanted half the field to be Wario for the lolz. :slol: I'd be ok with giving it another go and certainly if someone really wants to be Waluigi on Team Wario then thats fine. Also Bowser if it tempts you back Dragon. :shifty:

I should be about tonight. Might get distracted by the football though.

I'd more than happy to rejoin Team Wario as Wario, I just play on Team Mario to balance out the teams. I feel that you're good enough to give both me and Seven a run for our money. Especially with those toothbrushes :shifty: I was epic seeing so many Warios on the track. I'd love to see 6 human Marios facing 6 Warios, all of whom are controlled by GRcaders.

Where did everyone go? :(

I find I don't have much time lately, so it's hard for me to plan when I will be online... It's usually quite ad-hoc, I find I have an hour left and switch on the Wii U.

Is there currently a GRCade tournament going on where I can just check whether someone is online and join? In other words, not tied to certain days, rules, etc?

Thanks, TWA. I suspect it was a freak result!

A few weeks ago there were loads of GRcadians racing... but many seem to have now disappeared. I'm usually around for the Monday racing and 50/50 for the Friday racing. Hopefully more people will soon join in again.

There is a daily tournament from 21:00 (UK), Dandy - ref #8936-8616-1275; and other tournaments run on Monday, Thursday and Friday (see opening post of this thread).

C'mon, GRcadians - let's get racing again! Don't worry if your driving skills aren't up to the standards of TWA, Dragon or Seven - it's still a great laugh and, if I'm playing, you'll always be in with a chance :-).

Really wish we would take the AI off. It's just as fun racing against even just one other person.

I would also prefer no AI.
