Thanks I'm using this technique now and just got through to the tunnel ok.

I panicked

Doing a bit better now, just started the Mass State House (Capitol Bldg) section...

Stealth is definitely the answer, but I never have spare shivs or items to craft them :dread:

Much of the game was, for me, reliant on my stealth skills. It has two positive affects:
- being a silent kills doesn't alert the infected so you can take them out one-by-one
- you preserve ammo

It'll pay-off...especially for when things rely on a mix of stealth and firefights later on.

You're a lucky bastard anyway. I so wish I could erase my experience and start it fresh. Ah...the memories

What difficulty level are you playing on? I played on default and almost always had materials for shivs and upgraded melee weapons. Are you using shivs sparingly or at every given opportunity?

I'm playing on normal. Probably should have gone for easy as I'm not particularly "hardcore".

I'm fairly careful with the shivs but I think as I was struggling I seem to be placed back at the start of certain sections without having equipped myself very well before "dying"

E.g. I think I'm supposed to have a rifle(?) in the Capitol building but somehow missed it, and now have to start sneaking around with all these soldier guys shooting on sight. I'll get there...

The rifle is made available to you after the scene with Tess/soldiers breaking through.
You wouldn't use the rifle in that situation anyway, tbh. Waste of ammo. You can pick those guys off one at a time using take-downs and completely bypass two in the last big room before the exit.

But going from the fact you missed the rifle, I think your problem regarding lack of shivs is you are not checking enough places for materials.

Edit: I had made combat more difficult for myself by forgetting (Haven't really played it in two months) that you can switch to other weapons of the same type by pressing X. So when I thought I was running low on Ammo I actually had plenty, just for other weapons. :fp: That combined with trying to use the aforementioned techniques (and minimising combat where possible) seems to be helping.

That said I still find the clicker insta-deaths to be rather cheap and the AI is absolutely shocking at times, find it particularly poor the way enemies will always go straight for you and ignore your allies. There's enough that I like to make me want to plug ahead with it but its definitely got its share of issues.

The combat is designed such that you should to try to avoid it, you know, like you probably would if there was actually a zombie outbreak!

The one-hit kills of the Clickers is what makes them brilliant, as they're pretty terrifying. When combined with runners (who can see you and, therefore, alert Clickers of your presence by seeing you) things can get extremely tense.

Very true  I think it just takes a while to get round to the mindset given the typical nature of games where all the enemies are just cannon fodder.

This has really started to click with me now, got my head round managing items and upgrades plus effectively handling combat. It's really challenging but very satisfying when you get it right and the atmosphere is just superb.

I was shooting away and killing everything for about the first third of the game :fp:

Only when I started using the bow properly did I realise the way to do it is to sidestep every encounter you can. I blame it on my need to hunt out all secrets though.

How many DLC have been released so far (and I don't mean the bloody hats!)

I thought there were two MP DLC released but I've only found DLC 1 for MP?

There's only the one released. The next one isn't due until after the single player DLC is out.

There was a free game type as DLC before the first paid bit came.

Apparently there will be news this month.

On my third play through and just done my favourite section of the game with Michael and Henry.

The Beach and Sewers bit is such a brilliant piece of in game story telling and something that's just not possible in any other format.

This is very good. I have just met up with the lad in a vest and his 14 year old brother.

Just finished it. Amazing.

Can someone explain how new game plus works? Can you only play new game plus on the difficulties you have previously completed the game on?

Start a new game plus, play the first chapter, quit, continue but change difficulty to survivor. Enjoy!

I read something like that. But also read that it had been patched. :?

Think I might be enjoying this the most on my third play through using the GamerGuides walk through for the collectables. It's not fully comprehensive for the bits and bobs but for the manuals/pendants/artifacts it's fine. Leaves me free to worry about the encounters and not have to worry about running a round for 10 minutes to pick up everything first as I just have a peak at the guide and pick them up when I'm ready.

Just doing the Uni encounters and I'm like a boss taking these strawberry floaters down, I've got so much spare ammo and weaponry and I'm on Survivor :datass:

I really can't wait to play this again...but I'm saving it for the moment.
