Exactly who gives a strawberry float if it's linear. That's the point. It's telling a story. It's certainly better than watching a cutscene.

It happens to any game that gets this level of praise. Just ignore it. The game's not totally without fault (the human enemy AI might be more stupid than the infected) but the positives far outweigh the negatives

Woah, I'm not hating on the game. I thought the first two hours were slow and fell a little flat but I loved the game, overall.

The intro was amazing but I agree the first few hours after it are a little slow. The first quarantine zone up until they are supposed to rendezvous with fireflies is the weakest section (though still better than a lot of games!)

All I will say is winter :datass:

I stopped playing this a few hours in but I've delved back into it tonight, unfortunately I'm really not enjoying it that much. I like the setting and characters but just find the combat so frustrating.

The one hit kill nature of clickers, combined with their erratic movement is effective in that it makes them something to be afraid of but it also makes it incredibly frustrating and cheap feeling when you die at their hands and at present its really putting me off.

Th cheapness works the other way too: enemies can't see your companions.

Do what Anung said.

Bob, just craft a molotov then keep throwing bricks and bottles into one place to try and gather round a bunch of enemies then throw the molotov and get like three kills in one. All without them knowing where you are. It then makes it a lot easier to finish the remaining enemies off.

Also, save all of your powerful ammo (shotgun, rifle etc) for them.

But yeah as said above, if you suck that much then just get that upgrade too.

Clickers also can't see you, only the runners can :P

Enemies can't see the torch either.

And make use of your upgraded melee weapons! Don't hog 'em. Use 'em.

Will give all that advice a go, cheers guys :)

Edit: I had made combat more difficult for myself by forgetting (Haven't really played it in two months) that you can switch to other weapons of the same type by pressing X. So when I thought I was running low on Ammo I actually had plenty, just for other weapons. :fp: That combined with trying to use the aforementioned techniques (and minimising combat where possible) seems to be helping.

That said I still find the clicker insta-deaths to be rather cheap and the AI is absolutely shocking at times, find it particularly poor the way enemies will always go straight for you and ignore your allies. There's enough that I like to make me want to plug ahead with it but its definitely got its share of issues.

The only thing that I don't like about the game is how your AI buddies are sneaking around and they managed to almost bump into the clickers and they ignore them like they're... well, not there.

Kinda break the immersion but it could make it much more frustrating than it should be, so I should be grateful.

Exactly. They haven't figured out a way to make your companion as adept as you are at stealth.

I didnt do the equip shivs thing for clickers because at the harder settings - shivs are at a premium.

The combat is designed such that you should to try to avoid it, you know, like you probably would if there was actually a zombie outbreak!

The one-hit kills of the Clickers is what makes them brilliant, as they're pretty terrifying. When combined with runners (who can see you and, therefore, alert Clickers of your presence by seeing you) things can get extremely tense.

I genuinely cannot play this game as far as shooting is concerned. Although I've flipped the aim controls (vertical only I mean) I'm not sure what I am doing, so chaotic :fp:

I'm at the part with Ellie and Jess in the rain and all the soldiers with their torches. Bullets coming from everywhere and I just get shot and die constantly.

Any tips? I've tried stealth but they see you anyway, I can't grab without it throwing punches and drawing attention. I am gooseberry fool at this... :(

I cannot co-ordinate camera turning, gun, aim, shooting at all. My fingers are all over the place and I can't even get a shot off. I am not used to this type of thing at all. I'll persevere but god it's frustrating. I know it's me, just not used to these types of game at all.

I'm dreading meeting any of the infected later on if I can't even do this early bit...

The best thing to do early on is sneak slowly behind people and strangle them as it's almost silent and you can clear entire buildings without using any items.
