I'm quite prepared for alternative opinions - but that I completely disagree with. Right down to the bloke's voice, the perpetual cliff-hanger gameplay and the "move this here, move that there" mechanic.

I've got no idea why this won so much praise and had people frothing at the mouth. If anything it bored me - essentially Uncharted reskinned (zombie edition) with the same mechanics and irritating elements. Felt like my hand was being held the entire way through. I was told the story was "gripping and emotional" but it's laughable when compared to anything outside videogames.

It also made my PS3 scream whenever I played it. Which was fun. It looked lovely, really lovely in places but outside of the visuals it felt completely unremarkable - not sure if hype's played a part in it and people have just been swept along by someone's oft-repeated opinion but between this and Bioshock, there's two painfully average games trapped inside a pretty shell. Maybe ya'll thought it was brilliant - fair enough - but I found it predictable and monotonous.

It makes me wonder how you played it. Sensitively or cut-and-thrust?

I just...played it. There's a list of things I didn't like, that jarred, but my overall experience was one of boredom. I felt like I'd played it all before and I was going through the same motions with set-pieces sign posted a mile off. Since posting, I had a hunt around the 'nets and I'm not alone in my opinion. It's just rather surprising as I hadn't heard anything negative about The Last of Us until I started berating the TV.

Joel sounds nothing like Drake.

I've no idea what you mean by Cliff hanger gameplay. Uncharted is an Action Adventure with suitably outlandish run and gun gameplay with crazy set pieces and a light hearted story. This is a Survival Adventure where you have to consider all your moves the enemies are far fewer and the tone of it all much more serious.

You'd have been right if you'd said you had seen elements of TLoU in other games (including Uncharted) but to say that it's just a re-skinned Uncharted is so wrong it's incredibly perplexing. What makes Uncharted Uncharted is its cheesy dialogue and humour, vibrant colour, action film-esque set pieces and lots of *pew pew pew*. I have no idea how you think TLoU is like that.

I was told the story was "gripping and emotional" but it's laughable when compared to anything outside videogames.

It's not the game's fault you've got no heart. :P

Having finished uncharted 1, and 2, while half way through 3, you can certainly see the influence on TLoU. The style, layout and colour layout. The shooting mechanics are also identical. The overall feel of the games us however massively different.

Fair enough. It won't be for everyone. I played through nice and steady to the point I dictated a tone of tension throughout the experience...and it worked a treat.

Oh yeah that completely linear run-down-this-corridor-full-of-insta-death is fantastic.

If you play it like an action game then yes it could be frustrating but if you take any notice of the game or story the locations make perfect sense and the fact both the protagonists are normal people make the game tense and brutal.
There are also plenty of sections that can be tackled in numerous ways.

Linear isn't always bad you know? :fp:

Linear games are the best. Open world games lack the story to pull you along.

From what I remember that was just the opening section which is a couple of minutes long and showed a guy running for his life from a world gone mad with an injured child. The rest of the game doesn't have that and while hard always gives you a chance.

Well I can only assume you didn't actually try and explore, then. Next time you play the intro try and head towards the petrol station - It spawns an enemy on top of you every time.

(we're just talking about the intro here, Pete)
