Well at least I know now that it's not a complete story, unlike the first one where I was watching it in the cinema thinking the story was going to have to be wrapped up pretty damn quickly near the end. Same happend with the latest Spiderman film.

I loved the first Dune book, which these 2 films cover, but the books turn to absolute shite from the 2nd book onwards IMO. I dislike them quite aggressively actually.
So I'd be amazed if they don't make some massive detours when they adapt them.

Second film.wasnt confirmed until the first was a success, the third film has been talked about and I believe it's going to be called Dune Messiah, which makes sense considering the story of the chosen one. Fully expect it to be confirmed in the coming weeks.
The second film does have an ending it's just an end to a chapter with massive things to come in the third part.

I prefer the second book, it contextualises everything much better and isn’t so much of a word salad.

Diminishing returns with these. It was interesting to find out there's a horror franchise I've never heard of and the linked films premise around the central characters is fun. It is quite tropey though and it begins to feel quite 'monster of the week's rather than having any interesting linkages between the stories. The scares don't really develop either and it becomes quite jumpy, there's something behind you. That said The Nun did some interesting stuff.
2 is my fav out of the whole series 3 is just meh and not scary at all and the jump scares i saw coming
Missing the two Annabelle films and The Nun 2.
But then Marlon Wayans have destroyed what little of positive things about Annabelle.
Most of the time, I can’t help think that those films have enabled the Warrens more than they deserved. They are obviously the biggest con artists. The Amityville hoax seems to confirm this (and the Conjuring skips this story and only mentioned it once.)
And The Nun 2 is slightly better than the first one but it still isn’t much different.

The strangest film I've seen in quite a while. I kind of enjoyed it - I watched it right through - but I suspect it may be far too slow and obtuse for the tastes of many.
It's just so odd and I'm not sure if the alien really exists or it is just imagination. It is strange... but strangely compelling, too. [5]

Dune Part 1 - 4/10
I love Denis Villeneuve's other films but this was just too hard to get into. I couldn't follow who everyone was or what was going on, and I quickly lost interest. Probably won't bother with the sequel.

I watched Thanksgiving (2023) last night - one of the movies made out of the fake trailers from Grindhouse. It was fine. It had some fun moments but it never really seemed like it wanted to commit to the bit. It flip flopped between meta self-awareness, post-Scream parody and affectionate dedication to the tropes of the genre in a way that meant it never felt like it earned a proper personality for itself. Perfectly fun nonsense though.

The second film completes the first book, found it a lot more satisfying film than the first.

Poor Things
What a strange film but it’s so good. The plot does trigger some uneasiness though.
Emma Stone’s character is basically that she committed suicide and a mad doctor took her unborn baby’s brain and transplanted it into the deceased body of the dead mother. Then she went on a sexual adventure, and you can see in the film’s use of colours that she is basically still a child in mind.
Wonderful use of colours, surrealism and outstanding performances from Emma Stone, Mark Ruffalo and William Dafoe.
8/10

The Remains of the Day (1993 | Netflix)
An excellent drama about restraint; both applied and self-imposed. It's a good story albeit rather sad. [6]

Penned by one of my favourite authors, Kazuo Ishiguro, the book is better.

I love the flashback at the start. The way it's edited makes it look like JCVD has been standing in that dude's living room, staring at the mantlepiece, for a straight 15 minutes
