The Godfather (1972) - 10/10

Yep, so many iconic moments throughout.

The 'make him an offer' line will never not be brilliant and timeless.

The Conjuring - 8
The Conjuring 2 - 7
The Conjuring 3 - 6
The Nun - 6

Diminishing returns with these. It was interesting to find out there's a horror franchise I've never heard of and the linked films premise around the central characters is fun. It is quite tropey though and it begins to feel quite 'monster of the week's rather than having any interesting linkages between the stories. The scares don't really develop either and it becomes quite jumpy, there's something behind you. That said The Nun did some interesting stuff.

Ah yes, the film that made me want to (at 12 years old) try ice hockey.

The fact that i lived in Devon though, many hours from any kind of winter sports facilities, and with a climate that was wet and grey, kinda put a stop to that sadly. :(

I’d went to the midnight launch of Dune 2 [I would have thought releasing on June 2, would have generated more buzz, but hey ho  ]. I thought it was rubbish, 2 and a bit hours of taking water from one thing and putting it in another with a bit of Star Wars Sarlacc racing and inevitable showdown between Wonka and Elvis Presley thrown in for good measure. Thank god for snacks otherwise I’d have fallen asleep [5/10].

I like the legend that Puzo wrote the screenplay without any formal training or experience in how screenplays should be written, and then years later thought he should study it. The first line of the book he chose to study simply said 'Watch The Godfather'.

I dunno, Blue Sweet Shoes sounds like something Wonka would come up with.

Got half way through Napoleon last night and it's so odd. Why have they made him such a weirdo? :? It's like they cast Joaquin Phoenix after his Joker role and said yep, play him like a moody fedora-wearing misogynist. He was meant to be a charismatic leader, I don't get why they went for this direction.

The film is a bit of a mess too, in both tone and pacing/structure. It jumps all over the place without giving much context and some of the dialogue is really bizarre-almost like it's trying to be a satire/comedy despite everything being super serious, which is jarring when you've gone in expecting a proper biopic.

Odd film, not sure I'll bother finishing. Ridley Scott is obviously capable of pure brilliance but this does make me concerned for Gladiator 2.

I thought it was OK but due to the Metacritic and critical response you'd have thought this was the greatest thing ever, I felt they had a great cast but no one did anything of note. I wanted to like it and was excited enough to go to a midnight launch just a tad disappointed.

Green Book (2018 | Netflix)

This film is set in the US in 1962 and details the journey of a highly-skilled piano player and his driver on a tour through the deep southern states of the country. There are plenty of instances of racism and it's difficult to think that such situations really existed; it always shocks.

There are some excellent performances and the story details challenges and changes faced by both men during the journey. Very good indeed. [8]

Dune Part 2 - 10/10

Saw it in IMAX, really enjoyed it and thought it was even better than the first which was excellent but didn't conclude anything, this one brings an end to some stories and sets up the next film very well.

It looks stunning, soundtrack is amazing and everyone is perfectly cast and giving it everything. Just an exceptionally high quality film. The audience was silent throughout, just taken in the wonder of it all. Only negative is the fact we now have to wait for part 3, but I'm sure it'll be worth the wait.

Also the trailers for Mad Max 2, Godzilla X Kong, Kingdom of the Planet of th Apes all looked great on the big screen.

Wish my image sig would work

It isn't confirmed yet but it's inevitable now that the sequel is making bank at the box office. DV wants to do it too.
