The full film Man Bites Dog (1992) has been uploaded to YouTube. Well worth a watch if you like very very dark comedies. It's filmed like a documentary and follows a low level criminal who is being filmed by a documentary crew. It's extremely good and very dark as the crew get pulled more into his world.

Not for everyone but an excellent movie. 10/10

Civil War - 8

The trailer with Jessie Plemons I think in retrospect will be seen as mis-selling the film. There's nothing wrong with the film having no politics really but after seeing that people going in expecting it are likely to come out confused. It's a war photography film really. The American Civil War setting is entirely inconsequential. That said, that scene with Plemons is fantastic.

Journalist's come out of this film pretty badly, portrayed as thrill seekers, glory hunters, uncaring robots and misguided in what altruistic aspirations they do have. The central characters are all arseholes really. Whatever message the film is trying to land, if not purely a piece of entertainment (and it is enjoyable in its own right as such), it lacks any punch because there's no real counterpoint to the central characters, it's purely their journey.

I did very much enjoy it though.

The Northman - 9/10

Third time watching this and I really do think this is a misunderstood classic, it's best watched late at night with a glass or two of something strong so you can just immerse yourself in the storytelling and really feel the Norse mythology and symbolism wash over you. It's weird and abstract and it doesn't hold your hand as it tells it story, but it's so authentic in what it wants to say and I just can't fault it. Really makes me want to play Skyrim as well which is never a bad thing :datass:

My wife absolutely hated it as well, which means it must be amazing :slol:

Jurassic World Dominion - 3/10. Not only is it a gooseberry fool film but they also drop easter eggs into the movie in the most unsubtle way since Keenan Ivory Wayans was the mailman character in Don't be a menace saying message just so you didn't miss the message.

Suzume - 7/10

Not as good as Your Name which was made by the same people (i think), but it was a decent slice of anime pie nethertheless.

Family Guy Presents: Blue Harvest - 9/10

Re-watched this tonight after many years (2007!) and it's still the best Star Wars... thing since Empire Strikes Back, and I don't even like Family Guy!

Modern Star Wars is trash.

Last Night In Soho - 9/10 - still love it every time I watch it, for the music alone I would give it the 9/10.

Spaceman - 2/10

Absolutely dire and a total waste of time. The only reason it's getting 2 points is the decent effects on the stupid giant talking spider.

Godzilla x Kong New Empire - 5/10

At this point the human characters might as well be white noise they spew such nonsense and are merely vehicles to follow around Kong and Godzilla. It's decent enough fun but it's been diminishing returns on this universe for about 3 films now. They need to introduce a significant new character (which I guess they have sort of done with Mothra) or feel like they're building to something as unfortunately just another one of these won't really cut it anymore.

Oh really, that gooseberry fool?

Thank god I didn't recommend this for night movie, my stock is already at an all time low!

What is wrong with it?

Technically not a one hit wonder, but I don't think Babylon Zoo themselves could name another of their songs without looking it up.

I bought the first Babylon Zoo album. Highly underrated record, would recommend the other singles Animal Army and The Boy With The X-Ray Eyes, as well as the deep cut Is Your Soul For Sale. 8-)

The Fall Guy - 4/10; the two leads are decent but the plot is very naff. It doesn’t seem to know what it is, a romcom or an action film? it tries to combine both but fails on both accounts. It does have a great soundtrack though.

Jo Jo Rabbit - This was a really nice little film.

It had flaws and at times was a bit too farfetched and silly, but yet, I loved it.

The kid got the level of his confusion and indoctrination just right, Scarlett Johansson was lovely as always. The relationship between the Jewish girl and the young lad growing over time was lovely. I'll come back to this in the next year for a re-watch I think.. For now I'll give it a 9/10 . I'll be interested to watch more from Taikai Watitti in the future.
