The footage I've seen so far is horrific. It's certainly not something that would have been covered by terms of war or any of that other nonsense on how wars should be fought. It's going to end with big beating small, quite possibly eradicating them altogether and taking over Gaza. It's got the potential to turn into something massive.

I don't really trust the Met to be able to identify a hate crime to be honest, I'd assume it was unless the restaurant owners thought otherwise. Although if 'free Palestine' being spray painted on a nearby bridge is the required evidence that it was, you'd think they would have tagged the restaurant itself.

I would imagine the two things were done by different people.

The BBC guy stated that "it was reported that a cash register had been stolen". I guess it could be a hate crime and they then realised they could also steal some cash. But that's wild speculation.

The bridge is the more likely to be a hate crime. It could be somebody painted it without realising it's a Jewish area. Far more likely though that it was written with the knowledge that Jewish people would have to see it and be frightened about what else might happen.

It's been a bit of a rude awakening in the past few days to see so many of my friends and former colleagues that I met in Qatar sharing some fairly despicable tweets and artwork justifying all Hamas atrocities these past few days. I keep seeing mega viral tweets like this, justifying a Fanon-style 'anything goes' approach to violence from a woman in Minnesota -

I guess I believed the previous addendums - 'it's not about Jews, it's about the IDF', 'we support the cause, not Hamas'. It's been a revealing few days. Anything goes. It can all be justified. We are human and we matter, they do not. The sight of a dead, naked woman being paraded on the back of jeep? She shouldn't have been dancing. It's incredibly distressing to see and mind-boggling that people will share such posts with their full names and sometimes their employers in their bio.

Obviously, nothing justifies what will come to pass if Israel lives up to its threats this week, and I dread the images we will see. My point is that right now, in this moment, I have to agree with a writer I follow on Twitter: 'If you are immune to the suffering you are witnessing because your ideology tells you it is morally acceptable, you are utterly lost.'

The merest glimpse of a tweet counting as a view is silly.

But even ignoring that, views are a terrible way of judging how popular or widespread a tweet is. It'd only take one super famous person commenting on or retweeting to make a tweet get hundreds of thousands/millions of views. If it's getting strawberry float all engagement after that, it's certainly not a viral tweet.

They've also been doing this in Israel for at least 20+ years according to my step family. The Israeli media treats palestinian people for the most part (along with the government) as literally sub human. It amazes me that they can do this after everything that's happened to the very people they say they're in power to protect and offer a home to.
