They've also been doing this in Israel for at least 20+ years according to my step family. The Israeli media treats palestinian people for the most part (along with the government) as literally sub human. It amazes me that they can do this after everything that's happened to the very people they say they're in power to protect and offer a home to.

One of the oldest tricks in the fash book. Dehumanise your enemy, so your people are less opposed to the inhumane treatment you dish out.

This war really is horrifically brutal and desperately sad.

Saw reports of Israel pulling out the white phosphorus, too. It's just warcrimes countering warcrimes and it's just starting.

(This leg of it, I mean).

You know it's bad if Jawa's taken to posting in a highly contentious political thread.

The terrorist attack has doomed an already doomed people. Whatever the government do will be seen as an acceptable response, they know this and I can't imagine they will hold back.

The world will then see a massive boost in refugees and some will try to come to England. Wouldn't be surprised if the UK government made an all out ban on refugees from Palestine on the grounds of security.

The Supernova massacre already followed the Bataclan playbook, so why not go full ISIS?

Varhelyi is a hard right Orban and Netanyahu ally who had no authority to make that call.

The EU have quickly backtracked (although the situation seems completely confused and in dissary)

How can the western world sit by and watch the rhetoric coming from the Israeli government and the IDF.

Ireland voiced concern and the legality for suspending EU funding to Palestine.

Ironic given over 100 years ago we were banning Jewish people from entering Palestine. Then terrorism from the Zionist terrorist cells and attacks from them there made us give up on the area, say strawberry float it and form Israel with the US smack bang in the middle of Palestine leading to this horrific mess in the first place.

Al Jazeera is demonstrating the opposite bias. When Palestinians are killed, they’re adding:”… including XX children” but not doing the same for Israeli deaths.

I wonder if it is 'just' unconscious bias (didn't the Tories force the BBC to cut funding for training?!) or something more sinister, as in someone has stood over a shoulder and instructed to use the verbs in that way :dread:.

Any defence from the BBC will probably fall under - and I hate this term - ‘collateral damage’. Hamas doesn’t have any distinction between military or civilian targets, so any death is a win. IDF - in their words - intends to only kill military targets. I’m not saying I believe that, but whoever wrote the tweet likely did.

Unless/until we see a pattern, I'd put it down to the journalistic thing of avoiding repetition, so they used a different phrase in the second sentence. If they continue to put things in those same terms, then it looks biased.

EDIT: Though there is plenty of other repetition in there.

Thing is it's always that way around when Palestine is concerned. That's where the issue comes in. It reinforces the bias that the media has been pushing for 80 years which is that Palestinian lives are worth less than Israeli lives.

OK, I'm not arguing one way or the other. I haven't seen enough to know. Just saying we shouldn't put too much emphasis on a single tweet. Looking at the BBC's live page, they seem to pretty consistently refer to people on both sides as "being killed".
