PS3 still rocks pretty hard :toot: .

I played Fallout 3 GOTY edition on PS3, it was fine. New Vegas was certainly worse when I played it on launch. I've no doubt Fallout 3 was very bad at launch on PS3, but presumably it got patched - as did New Vegas.

Fallout 3 ran really well until the DLC was introduced, which then totally broke the game.

Was Fallout 3 like Oblivion in that the longer you played it the worse the performance became?

Yes! It ran okay for a while but, the further you got into the game, the slower it ran. I'm not certain that the issue was ever resolved for 3; but it was for Vegas.

Ah, interesting that they fixed it for Vegas! I recall various articles and videos at the time exploring the issue and making suggestions about what was causing it.

Those were the "glory days" of 360vsPS3 comparisons when gamers across the land would gather round to hear the latest proclamations from Digital Foundry about which system ran the games best!

Buy the JP physical release before the store shuts down because the price will skyrocket at that point

I was always told the issues with Bethesda games was something to do with how many save games you had, so the trick for it to now slow down was apparently to just keep saving over a save file not making loads of new save files

I have a 6 save rule and save over the oldest.
I had no issues with Fallout 3, managed to platinum it and all the DLC.
Then New Vegas came out and I thought it was totally toss.

Coincidentally just set mine up again last night. Had a hankering to play Monkey Island again and thought I'd play it on a PS for the trophies. Console runs pretty badly and chucked out heat. Really wish PS took a more considered view towards backwards compatibility.

The OG model is picking up value a fair bit for the backwards compatibility, still strawberry floating loud however.

If you have people over to play games then the PS3 is still in unbeatable party console. The older Singstar games just install all their songs on the HDD and are playable from one title, Buzz is brilliant and if you can be arsed with the setup the instruments for Guitar Hero/Rock Band are cheap as chips.

Plus it plays Super Rub a Dub.

I'm keeping mine for this very reason.

Buzz, singstar, Beatles rock band, etc

My older PS3 (fat model but not old enough to play PS2 games) Over heated and I had to take it apart, did it a few times but I think eventually it just kinda killed itself, it was second hand when I got it and got hammerd quiet a bit, but I did get two cheap slimline ones and they are great, sing star is super fun and they are good for playing both PS3 and PS1 games via HDMI.
