Jerk-off doesn't roll off the tongue as well. That'll probably be it, you're right.

He said they were thick, I would imagine that was questioning their intelligence. ;)

That joke isn't trying to be intelligent anyway. It is just mocking the annoying little cocks who actually shout gooseberry fool like that. Hence the hilarity when they got caught and turned all quiet and scared  . I really like the Inbetweeners tbh. Some seriously laugh out loud moments because like people have said, it's that exaggerated version of stuff that a lot of people go through.

As for the term "inbetweeners" I just assumed that meant that they weren't complete "losers" who everyone hated, but they weren't cool kids either. They were just in limbo and didn't have a place. I never thought of it as being an age thing. The show is about them as a group. So it being about age would be about everyone else and not just them.

Hopefully this will just get Americans watching our version instead and then realise how much better ours is.

The UK version is on Netflix in the US. I even know people in Indonesia who watch it.

They cant do another series, each series was a year of sixth form, sixth form ended so they had a blow out holiday.

They would need to do a university type show... There was one with the guy who played Jay, he was a different character but it was very funny, cant remember the name though...

Do you mean with the guy who played Simon, called Fresh Meat?

Fresh Meat was great, after a slow start. Mustn't distract them from Peep Show though.

In places, the reuse of jokes makes it seem like a parody. As if something this stupidly specifically British could be Americanised, what a laff. Also, America already has Project X and the American Pie films. It doesn't need our Inbetweeners, it has its own.

I don't see why it's 'specifically British'. I always thought the strength of The Inbetweeners was because its premise was so universal. The characters are pretty much archetypes anyway, you've got the nerd, the braggart, the idiot and the normal one we're suppose to identify with. Most of themes from the show are universal too; young men obsessed with sex, first crappy car, the unattainable babe from school,Stifler's Will's mum.

Obviously some of the gags will only make sense to British audiences, but so what? Change the sixth form to High school, wanking to jerking off and have you really lost anything?

Don't get me wrong, there are some classic British comedies which I believe could not be translated because they are 'specifically British'. Comedies like Blackadder, Dad's Army and Fawlty Towers. These would never work in a million years. The Inbetweeners however, seems tailor made for the American market.

I've always thought of The Inbetweeners as the live-action cousin of South Park, so I reckon it could work for a US audience. Not the travesty that's been made, though.

It might be my age group but it like an exaggerated version of what me and my mates were like at school which is why its funny I guess.

Exactly! It was strawberry floating hilarious. Plus if you watch 'Best bits' out of context it just won't be funny. I want to see the whole joke not some B list celebrities talking for 15 minutes then showing a 30 second clip.

In my junior school there was this mate of mine who told the biggest whoppers ever! Just like Jay! I think every school must have one.

4 boys, wacky supporting character, crazy situations. Enough of a similarity for me.
