Be grateful to live in Luton.

Luton is actually getting an absolute deluge of investment at the moment after decades and decades of being left to rot.

The town I live in isn't so lucky and despite the population pretty much trippling over the last 20 years the only investment we've ever had is the A1 shopping park.
The roads are a shambles as they can't cope and we have zero entertainment options other than pubs.

No. Because you have just landed after a week in Tenerife.

Luton is massively hilly for East Anglia.
Yeah, it's hardly the Himalayas but the airport is on the top of a pretty big hill and that's why the Luton Dart isn't a train but an automated people mover with motors at each end.

Why would anyone want to go to tenerife after seeing the majesty of Luton and it's mighty airport?

You could just spend 2 weeks in the airport car park plane spotting, much better  .

Luton has a Costa and a Waterstones.
I'd love to see Tenerife match that.

Yeah, let's celebrate the excavation of Old Oak Common for a business-class railway.

HS2 faces further delays and cuts as UK government seeks to rein in cost of high-speed line

Britain’s planned High Speed 2 rail line faces further delays of up to four years and more cuts to the project under plans being drawn up by ministers to rein in its ballooning costs.

The extra delays to the country’s biggest infrastructure project would mean it would not be completed until as late as 2045 — 12 years later than originally planned.

In a bid to cut costs further, the government shelved a 140km stretch of the eastern leg from East Midlands Parkway to Leeds two years ago.

The latest cost-cutting initiative is now examining scrapping the remaining 60km stretch of the eastern leg.

Another potential cut to the scope of the project is the Handsacre Link, which would connect HS2 to the existing West Coast main line, allowing high-speed trains to serve Stafford and Stoke-on-Trent.

What's Labour's HS2 position?

2045

It feels like this has been going on forever already. In 2045 we'll all be too old to leave the house without soiling our granny pants.

The project will finally be completed in 2063, will have cost £2 trillion, and will extend from London to Old Oak Common.

Some of the potential cuts the FT reported on yesterday now might include:

reducing the number of trains from 18 to 10 an hour (would mean fewer platforms are needed at HS2 stations)

reducing the train top speeds from 224mph to 125mph

Might as well rename HS2 to something else.
