Poor people = slow minds = slow trains

Rich people = fast minds = fast trains

It's just science.

The Times are also reporting that Sunak is considering scrapping the Euston terminus station for HS2 to reduce costs.

It would be utter madness to build a high speed train connecting Birmingham to Old Oak Common ("a train from nowhere to nowhere"). Then switching to the Elizabeth line to the reach Euston takes 30 minutes.

So the time saving is eliminated and HS2 tickets will cost more than the WCML ticket too.

I suspect he'd be more likely to kick the can down the road and let Starmer make the decision after the GE but what a crap way to deal with long term infrastructure projects.

Don't know how he's got the nerve to show his face, let alone front a five-minute promo pretending the whole shitshow is going well. Still, he's jumping ship, after six years of failing to deliver anything and allowing costs to escalate to absurd levels. I expect they'll give him a peerage. banana split.

That magical journey from Birmingham to London Euston Old Oak Common will be well worth it.

Is it just me or is the only point of this train system is to get people into Birmingham faster.

Amusement under late capitalism is the prolongation of work.

The point of the project was more than just speed, it was to increase capacity in the rail network and reduce overcrowding, or at least that was the original plan anyways.

I like to think of it as helping people escape Birmingham faster.

HS2 has an incredibly misleading brand name. It should have been called High Capacity Rail as that's the main purpose for building it.

A dedicated high speed rail line allows a greater amount of commuter trains and freight trains to run on existing rail lines rather than having 3 different types of train service competing against each other for the same rail line whilst travelling at different speeds and different frequencies at which they have to stop.

Sounding increasingly likely that the Birmingham to Manchester leg will be scrapped.

I saw today that Indonesia has built a high speed line at a fraction of the cost, maybe their team should have been hired for HS2?

People in Indonesia know their place, so it’s cheap. Here, the public expect compensation for everything.

Rishi Sunak to announce scrapping of HS2 high-speed rail line from West Midlands to Manchester tomorrow, BBC understands

As David Hasslehoff once said, it’s time to get in the car.

lmao, what a strawberry floating waste of time and money. So glad they've done all this construction work for a line that will get you from Birmingham and nearly all the way to London, right next to the existing line that already gets you to Euston very quickly.
