EDIT: Not saying all pre-80s rock is classic rock. Obviously there was punk etc. Classic rock is a catch-all for everything not otherwise defined.

Agree with this. It's basically a genre/style of music in itself.

Exactly, classic rock was probably talked of as a genre in the late 80s so it isn't as simple as saying x years ago is the boundary.

I would say it's more about the sound. Like you could start a classic rock band today. Blur are more if a pop band than any kind of rock band.

Amusement under late capitalism is the prolongation of work.

I think of Classic Rock as between 60's-80's for classic bands and acts. The Who, The Rolling Stones as "classic rock" This guy turned around and said to my mate "Green Day, My Chemical Romance" as classic rock.

Britpop is a subgenre of rock music - if you consider a drummer, two or three guitarists and a singer to be the 4-4-2 of rock then a lot of Britpop bands don't stray too far from that. If Coldplay can call themselves a rock band then Blur/Oasis/Pulp/Suede definitely can!

I don't think "Classic Rock" is a genre to be honest. You wouldn't have this discussion about classic pop music being pre-1990, so Kylie and Jason count but Take That and the Spice Girls don't.

Tbf, a ton of people think ps360 backwards is retro. I think there was even a poll in the game section that a few said the same.

I always thought it's like a catchment that will grow over time. I would put music from the early 90's in the category. It's over 30 years ago.

It's weird, I see that with gaming but I don't see it with classic rock like this as it feels more like a specific genre.

It is, though. Characterised by light- to heavily distorted guitar riffs, with occasional but generally modest solos (compared to shredding); minimal keyboards; heavily influenced by blues; male-dominated lead vocals, often with harmonised backing vocals; tempo usually from 90-120, in 4/4 time; lyrics focused on relationships and raucous behaviour.

Obviously a generalisation, by definition.

I don't count 'Neighbours: A New Chapter' as classic Neighbours. I define classic soaps as those which first aired prior to 1987.
