Sega wrote:FIGHT FOR FREEDOM ACROSS A HOSTILE GALAXY IN THIS FRENETIC THIRD-PERSON CO-OPERATIVE TEAM SHOOTER.

Do you believe in freedom? Can you stand in the face of oppression – and defend the defenceless? Wage war for peace. Die for democracy.

Join forces with up to three friends and wreak havoc on an alien scourge threatening the safety of your home planet, Super Earth, in this multiplayer co-op shooter for PS5 and PC from Arrowhead Game Studios.

Step into the boots of the Helldivers, an elite class of soldiers whose mission is to spread peace, liberty and Managed Democracy using the biggest, baddest and most explosive tools in the galaxy.

Helldivers don't go planet side without proper backup, but it’s up to you to decide how and when to call it in. Not only do you have a host of superpowered primary weapons and customizable loadouts, you also have the ability to call on stratagems during play.

Helldivers 2 features Arrowhead's best cooperative gameplay yet. Collaboration will be vital: Teams will synergize on loadouts, strategize their approach for each mission and complete objectives together.1

Enlist in Super Earth’s premier military peacekeeping force today. We are heroes… we are legends… WE ARE HELLDIVERS.

I really like the look of this. I liked the last one.

As noted by X user KAMI, the game is currently the top result for pre-orders on PS Store when sorted by best selling — we can confirm that's the case when we had a look, too. It's also been pointed out that the PC version of Helldivers 2 is among the best-selling games on Steam right now. At the time of writing, globally it's in sixth place, and in the UK and US, it's currently third, placing just above the explosively popular Palworld. In terms of pre-purchases, the game is numero uno.

I'd barely heard of the game until just recently but it seems to be doing well on pre-orders for both PS5 and PC. From watching the vids, the tongue-in-cheek, "Starship Troopers" styling looks pretty neat. Nice to see a game arriving with a £35 price tag rather than £70, too.

Is anyone picking this up? Never played the last one but really tempted by this, haven't see any reviews of it at all though which I'm not sure is worrying or not in this day and age?....

Yeah, it's another "online only" multiplayer shooter so I don't think we'll see reviews until it's live. Previews seem positive albeit it's very much an "AA" title (which, of course, is no bad thing!).

The first game was excellent, played great and had a very entertaining starship troopers style.

This looks like a great sequel and the switch from twinstick to third person shooter is bold. The only downside is the loss of local coop (feeling that particularly as I'm seeing friends this weekend who I played the original with in local coop).

Did you get it on PS5 and PC?

I've watched a fair few videos of it now and it looks fantastic, but there were mixed reviews on Steam for launch yesterday saying the match-making was broken and I've seen the same on PS5 versions too, so I've held off for the time being.

PC. I’d heard about the matchmaking issues but I was playing with a group so didn’t need to use it. We actually had a bit of an “issue” when we were accidentally matchmaking (successfully) for the empty fourth slot but didn’t intend to, but that was down to us using the wrong option. Another problem that came up before I joined was that changing armour while in an online session would crash the game but that was easily avoided.

Aside from what I’m happy enough to put down as “launch day teething”, it’s all pretty slick. We didn’t fail any of the missions we tried but as it went on it was ramping up the difficulty sharply. There’s a lot of strategems to unlock and some of them look cool as strawberry float.

Probably the highest praise I have for it is that the whole package is so coherent and on-point it doesn’t really feel like a nod to or an impersonation of Starship Troopers. It feels every bit as good as the inspiration.

Diamond of Destiny :D

it's not exactly deep but it's amazingly good fun with co-op friends. Solid to play, fun to contol. Perfect Friday night funtime fodder

This game is really poorly balanced for playing on your own.

I know that's not the intention, but it would be nice to bang out a chill couple of missions solo.

Every single time I've tried it (even on easy) you just got overwhelmed every single time because you simply don't have the fire power.

So I picked it up on PC on Friday night and I've been playing Solo the last couple of nights. I've found Medium difficulty my limit and even then I'm extracting from missions with only 1 redeploy and only half the extra sub missions completed.

The addition of all the bigger armored beasts definitely makes it a lot harder for solo.

Still really enjoying it, might try and do some random match-making and see how it plays.

Couldn’t imagine playing this solo, considering it’s all *about* the teamwork.

Someone on the other place threw this excellent representation of this excellent game together:

Played again tonight with Sawyerpip, Fade and Chalky and I'm really enjoying it.
It's just the right pace for me on normal and I can see us playing for quite a while as we get better weapons and strategems.

After I left you guys I ended up playing with some people who had unlocked level 9 Helldive difficult. Very intense! Managed to complete 2 out of 3 missions somehow though.

Bloody hell.
We'd have no chance as we're still getting used to the controls.
I still only have the starting stuff and haven't bought any new equipment or strategems yet.

It is a great looking game for videos like that.
The action can be pretty amazing and the explosion effects at night are spectacular.

I'd love to see this running on a maxed out gaming PC.
