Best tip I could give it to not get annoyed if you die (you will die a lot), it's part of the fun!
Also I'd ease in with level 2 or 3 bug missions as a starter as it's easier to learn the ropes against enemies that don't shoot back, then move across to try out the automatons (Aaron might disagree!).
Also also! In the lower-difficulty levels it's worth mopping up the entire map of side objectives and finding samples as they're key to levelling up and getting better gear early on that will see you jump to higher difficulty levels quicker.
Enjoy it man!

Do not play against the bots until you're used to the game. They are way way harder than the bugs.
I'd say once you unlock the mortar turret, then go for the bots. That thing helps level the playing field a lot since it can take them out without revealing line of sight
Cheers lads, played a few rounds and it was really fun. Kept getting put in games with guys much higher than me which was fun but did make me feel a bit useless as I'm still getting used to the controls and they're bossing objectives left right and centre. Felt like Will Smith in that bit in Men in Black with the shooting range.
Put the difficulty back down to medium and tried solo-ing a few missions which was much more fun even when rando's joined. The bugs are exponentially more enjoyable than the bots so far, and I can't quite figure out how to upgrade/unlock more loadouts. Apparently it's the 'Acquisitions' tab but I couldn't see anything in there so will investigate more tonight.
I thought the opening cinematic was hilarious and really set the tone. I also loved the ship naming options, and I'm now proud captain for the Fist of Family Values
EDIT; I am apparently not the first person to choose Fist of Family Values.
I still think it's funny.
