Right the old clunky TV has finally bitten the dust so it's time for a new one.
Got a max of 5-600 quid for summat that's 32 or 37".
Because I haven't got much of a clue about these things i was hoping you good folks could tell me what to go for.

Thanks in advance for any help you can offer.

John Lewis' prices are horrifically inflated.

But they price match - 'never knowingly undersold' - all it takes is a bit of negotiation.

The Sony KDL-26V4500 is supposed to be a fantastic TV. My Uncle is looking for a new TV, so I think he'll probably go with this one. It's only available in Sony Centre's & Sony Style, & it is expensive, but this really outshines the 26V4000 which is available in shops. I find it hilarious how Sony have launched an inferior TV (it only came out this month) to the masses, & kept the better one (which came out in June) to Sony stores.

The people on the AV forums seem to think it's great, & the reviews have been practically full marks. One of the best 26inch TVs available.

We have had the 4500 in the 40 inch in last week, its the bloody same! Please dont let any of your family blowany extra money on these sets, Sony need to be taught a lesson they cant keep overcharging just because their bloody name in on the TV.

The 26'' may be different though.

Can I also say that the free warranty doesnt cover accidental damage so pay your excess on your house insurance, Im pretty sure they dont have in house repairs and you have to pay upfront for the repair and claim it back. Bargain. :P

Carlos may be able to clear it up though.

I got some new HDMI cables today. From eBuyer for about £5 each for 5m of length.

Great cables, they do 1080p and 1080px24 just fine.

The 26'' may be different though.

Comparing the specs, the £100 difference in price gets you on the 4500 model:

1080p support (though not true 1080p)
Photo Picture Frame Mode
USB 2.0 input
The PS3 style Xross Media Bar
Sony's new BRAVIA Engine 2

How much of an improvement is the Bravia engine 2 over the first? The 4000 model is £410 on amazon, but the 32inch model is £428. Yes, less than 20 quid difference compared to the 26''!

Not according to Sony's own spec sheets it doesn't.

Here's a comparison table:

http://www.sony.co.uk/product/ComparePr ... DL-26V4000

One is using Bravia Engine 1, the other is using 2.

We are on about the V4000 right? Its got a sticker on it saying BE2 for goodness sake, all of the V4000 series has it.

On second thought the XMB might only be on the W series but the engine is in it, I use them every day.

Yeah, the V4000 (which has just launched) & the similar V4500 (came out back in June) which, according to the Sony website & reviews, is better but only available at Sony Style & Sony Centre.

The Sony site says the V4000 range uses the Bravia Engine, whereas the V4500 uses Bravia Engine 2.

Hold on a sec, we have the 4500 in store now.

Both the 4000 and the 4500 have the BE2 in it, its nothing new and the V4000 has been out months now.

Christ this is confusing - this is Sony's fault for having so many bloody ranges of television. It's ridiculous.

The V4000 26'' is using Bravia Engine 1
The V4000 32'' is using Bravia Engine 1
The V4000 37'' is using the Bravia Engine 1
The V4000 40'' is using the Bravia Engine 2

So according to them, only the large set is using Engine 2, whereas all the V4500's are using it. Apparently.

Is there a big difference between the two engines?

Just to show the discrepancies in their site...

So what are you supposed to believe? Even Sony themselves can't keep up.
