Short version is I'm looking to get a new TV along with a Sonos Arc soundbar for minimalist purposes. While I would like separate speakers and amp, the room can't accommodate it. The problem is that the Sonos Arc seems to be about 9cm high, and a significant number of new TVs don't have stands that high.

The TV I'm looking at is the LG C2, since the consensus seems to be that it's still one of the nicest sets out there (?). However, rather than limiting my TV choice due to the size of the stand it comes with, I'm looking for ways to neatly raise the height of the TV instead.

Has anyone come across any good solutions?

I had that issue with the CX. I had to put the soundbar on a lower shelf of the TV stand, which then required buying risers for the two consoles that were on that shelf, so they could sit behind the soundbar but still be used.

This is what has stopped me from getting a Soundbar, I've got an LG too.

Every now and then and see if I can find a TV unit that that has a "step" design where you could put a Soundbar on, not found one yet. You can get them where the soundbar is covered but that's no good.

when i put dolby atmos stuff on the gooseberry fool burns my eyes out let alone the screen

star wars stuff is insane for the bright skies lighting the whole room up at night

and regarding soundbars, a major reason i went lg is so that the bar matched the screen dimensions and i didnt have to bugger about

That's a shame, but I appreciate the input guys. I've spotted a workaround where people have used those Ikea Lack shelves to good effect to raise the height of the TV. Then, since the soundbar is wider, it blocks the shelf from view. However, that only works well if you've got a completely black or white TV stand so that the shelf blends in. My stand is wood so it'd look naff.

I guess I'll have to keep a lookout for suitable stands, which is a bit annoying given I only got this one when I moved in October.

You could put the soundbar behind the TV. If the C2 is like the CX, there’s a flat part at the back it could sit on. Not sure how much the sound would be muffled, but it’s an option. To be honest, I very rarely have the soundbar on. The built-in speakers are plenty good enough for most things.

I had to add a new wing to the house to get the sounbar to fit.

(I didn't bother with the LG soundbar as I prefer having room to move.)

According to The Sunday Times, sales of Sky Glass have been a disappointment, despite two of the models apparently being the 'best selling 4K TVs of 2022' (no doubt because of the monthly payment plans).

The Sunday Times wrote:And after the big launch, sales of Sky Glass have underwhelmed, sources say.

“It’s in a really tough place,” said a senior source who has worked closely with the company. “Sky Glass, Sky Stream are good innovations, but are they enough to save this business?”

Sky bosses realised that sticking dishes on the outside of homes had a limited lifespan, so he and his team began work on what became known as Sky Glass, a new Sky-designed TV with all the streaming apps and Sky built in.

Then Covid hit. Sky had hoped to launch the cheapest version – its 43-in set – for £9 a month. But supply chain problems led to rising costs, which meant it started at £13 a month instead, later rising to £14. Most people opt for the monthly contracts that end up cheaper than buying the TV outright at £699.

Insiders say prices could come down when those costs fall and argue Sky Glass is part of a longer-term strategy to become an “aggregator of content” – where people go to watch shows from all broadcasters or streamers.

The £949 55-in and £1,199 65-in models were the best-selling ultra-HD sets in the UK last year, but questions remain about Sky Glass’s popularity. The company is understood to be looking at creating a cheaper version.

Part of a wider article looking at the struggles of the business, particularly in Italy and Germany, and looming job cuts.

The competition on cheaper teles will really ramp up this year, as Amazon UK are in the process of launching their new Fire TV Omni QLED Dolby Vision IQ TVs, with prices starting at just £549.99: https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B09N74TZPP/ ... w_unk&th=1

LG G3 OLED reviews are in, with no real surprises.

9/10 from Rtings.com
5/5 T3
5/5 What HiFi
5/5 Expert Reviews
5/5 Pocket Lint
5/5 GamesRadar
4.5/5 Tech Advisor
4.5/5 Digital Trends

Disadvantages? Well, it doesn't come with a stand. Again.

After a month of deliberation my LG C2 was delivered yesterday. I didn't expect a massive upgrade from my old TV (an LG LED from when 3D was a thing), but it really is a massive step up. It's also sorted a very occasional issue that I'd been having over the past couple of weeks with my Sonos surround setup. Top Gun: Maverick in 4K was on sale on iTunes for £6 so I picked it up to give it a test run. First time seeing it. The movie itself, the visuals and the sound were all great.

I will say the sound out of the TV speakers is also actually quite good considering how thin it is. Nowhere near as good as the Sonos system, mind you. However, definitely good enough to get by if you don't want surround sound. I don't think the difference between the speakers (with that AI setting) and a sound bar alone would be that stark.

Ngh. Latest software update on LG CX has me annoyed. Previously, you could be streaming or playing something, hit the home menu to bring up all the streaming apps, etc on the TV and they'd appear on-screen while what you were viewing carried on playing. The update sticks said apps in LG's WebOS overlay which fully takes over from what you are viewing - visuals and audio are gone while you choose next app. Who the strawberry float tested this and thought it was an improvement? strawberry floating idiots. The only upside is what you're viewing remains in the background and can be returned to where you left off via the back button.

Ha! I’ve been moaning about this update since it happened too, for the exact same reason!

Thanks for posting the ‘fix’, SoK.

I'm super happy with the LG OLED55C14LB 55 I bought a while ago.
The picture is absolutely amazing and I really can't see myself getting to a point where I'm thinking of upgrading.

I can't see even next gen going 8K and this does 120fps so it does everything I need for gaming as well.

The size is perfect and I think going bigger would be a tad silly for this room.
Watching Silo on it has been fantastic  .

If you need a new TV you can most likely find this or even the next years set for cheap now and you won't regret it.

My 55" Samsung of 2.5 years is ready for the bin (it's out of warranty and I don't fancy paying the hefty repair!). Anyone any budget recommendations around the 500-600 quid mark?

Don't buy a cheaper model from an expensive brand, you're pretty much always paying for the name. Hisense have done some great TVs at the lower end of the market recently and their UI is excellent. This one falls squarely in your budget.

2.5 years is pathetic for a tv, did it get dropped or something? I'd be livid if I had to replace a tv after a few years.

There’s no reason a well built LCD/LED television shouldn’t last you at least 10 years. Indeed all my Sony televisions are still working (the oldest being a KDL-20S3040 from 2008).

I would also recommend Hisense in the budget space. You won't get more bang for your buck than their TVs.

Cheers all, yeah, had spotted that Hisense one last night, so will have a good look at it. The Samsung had been looked after well, no bangs or drops (even with my house move!). It just developed a screen fault out of the blue, whereby it keeps rebooting with no way out of it. It needs a refurbished screen, so the repair isnt really worth it.
