I hate the style of the Prometheans, they look like generic kids toys or something.

For me, Halo died after Reach. I enjoyed all of them up until 4. I honestly think that was one of the worst games I've ever played. Awful and the only Halo game I've sold on. So unless there is something magically different, this franchise has run its course for me. Sad, but it's had a good run. A decade and the old games are still very playable even today.

Not sure about it being "one of the worst games I have ever played", but certainly it made me lose a lot of enthusiasm for the series.

I hugely enjoyed Reach and felt it was the best game since the original, but Halo even had me looking back at Halo 2 and 3 with more fondness (not that 3's single player was bad, mind).

I didn't even finish 4 - got to the fifth level. All the others I did on Legendary.

For me it easily was. Sure it was technically impressive, but dear lord it was dull. There was very little about it that I found good. Hell, there was very little about it I found average either. Aside from the visuals it was pure shite.

I've put 4 on my LoveFilm list so hopefully will get it soon. Want to give it a go as it at least seems to look quite nice.

The Prometheans look like typical annoying to fight enemies, though.

Disappointing that it hasn't got a Firefight mode, too.

Their tells are very poor (or perhaps too subtle would be fairer), it's not at all clear when you're doing damage, when their shield have popped, when they're nearly dead. Things that Bungie's Covenant all communicated very well. The Knights actually aren't as bullet spongy as people make out, but the way they communicate their damage makes them feel this way.

The hit boxes, especially on robodogs and Watchers are frustratingly hit and miss too.

There were a lot of good ideas (or maybe good intentions) in Halo 4, some came off, others didn't. Which is a shame. I think 343i have been given a very hard time about it though. This was their first game, the task of putting a team in place that can deliver a great game is monumental. I think ultimately they had some of the wrong people, the lead campaign designer was from Call of Duty, for example (he's since left "by mutual consent") and there was clearly a lot of animosity between him and other members of the team.

Some of the recruitments they've made recently have been very positive and I'm excited to see where they go from here.

Do you know anymore about that out of interest? I'm guessing the animosity purely came from the direction he wanted the campaign to go in?

As for the game itself, lovely graphics and sound but the campaign tailed off towards the end for me. The Prometheans didn't quite live up to the hype 343 gave them in the end. I don't want to write 343 off just yet, I still think there's a lot more they can do with the campaign if they're not afraid to shake things up. Looking back it's been a while since i've proper enjoyed a Halo campaign consistently (quite possibly Combat Evolved).

The big franchises which say "Xbox" to me are Halo, Forza and Gears.

I haven't been very interested in Forza since I played 3 and hated it, and the other two feel decidedly tired to me.

I've got the highest hopes for Gears, though. Would prefer it if it went multiplatform.

Should have 4 tomorrow, so will get stuck in.

A brief description of the story was leaked by MS store earlier this week:-

In possession of a mysterious data chip, Petty Officer John-117, aka Master Chief, confronts a new battery of challenges and tests in a Herculean effort to stay alive in a galaxy where sentient life is mercilessly hunted. Pre-order the next chapter in the wildly popular Halo series designed exclusively for Xbox One.

I think 'next chapter' is the most important thing to take away. close to confirming Halo Xbox One is Halo 5.

I still can't work out just what exactly went on in Halo 4 - all that stuff with the...clouds...and dream sequences...

Amazingly confusing. The whole thing felt so un-Halo though, I can't really remember a lot of levels. I think past the halfway mark it got a lot worse. All grey levels, a lot of corridors, very dull.

I really hope they can discover the dread you felt in the original, going through the marsh and discovering the flood deep down in that research facility.
