I've been trying to put on some muscle and been aiming to hit about 130-140g protein a day (I'm 5ft 10/80kg for context) but finding myself coming up short a lot of days. I do have a protein shake each day so I guess I could just do another but it's a bit dull so looking for some decent snack ideas?

Overnight oats. I started making them a couple of weeks ago and now I can't stop eating them :slol:.

Oats, milk, protein powder (mine is chocolate flavour). Easy as that.

I then also choose to add chia seeds, chopped fruit (I just chuck a bag of pre-chopped frozen mixed fruit in) and cinnamon.

Batch it in a big tub in the fridge, portion it out each morning. l chuck a big blob of yoghurt on top, drizzle some honey if I'm feeling it and gobble the lot. It is so good.

Tbh at that weight I'd suggest 120g is more than enough which should make it a bit easier. I tend to just load my main meals with protein which does the job but otherwise a tuna sandwich works well for me.

Was great man! Really enjoyed it. Been years since I did anything similar so my cardio and technique was dogshit but all worth it for the endorphins after.

Will be going weekly now, though I'm also lifting 5 days a week so it's a struggle protecting my joints now that I'm getting old. Shoulder is killing me after yesterday's Bench session, not enough recovery time.

How are you getting on with all things fitness?

Nice :datass: did you spar with him?

Lifting five days a week is hardcore... maybe a little too hardcore!

I'm still a long way off where I was pre-baby, which is nearly two years ago now. Also, a couple of months ago I had some crazy D&V bug that went on for almost a full week. Couldn't keep anything down, and I lost a stone in five days :dread: was hideous.

Since then, I've made an effort to bulk back up, and I've put on 8kg. I'm now about 2kg off my heaviest ever, which would be okay if the weights I'm lifting were also at their heaviest, but as I said, they're quite a way off :slol:. Definitely putting on some chub to go with it, but not really bothered about that at the moment.

What's your programme for 5 days out of curiosity? I'm doing 4 and struggling to maintain the intensity.

'Tren hard, eat clean anavar give up'. :datass:

5 days per week of weightlifting would have me quoting Lethal Weapon "I'm too old for this gooseberry fool"!

On my non-gym days I just do 5 miles of walking / 10,000 steps as my exercise, it's a habit I started during the 2020 winter lockdown that I've done virtually every day since. Especially helpful since I've pretty much got permanent WFH so would otherwise be very inactive if I didn't make time for it.

Though I do a lot more yoga and stretching nowadays on top of that. I've got a rack, bench and weights in my garden so fits my lifestyle perfectly as I'm wfh; each one can be done in roughly an hour's lunch break.

Not on the anabolics yet lol, body does defo feel it though. Sometimes I'm generally knackered from it all, don't have any kids and I love it though so why not.

Was a woman ob, no sparring yet though. Think focus on technique and pad work is more important just now, never done ground work before so after a while of stand up will be looking to round out my skills.

Don't drink much anymore and only eat junk food maybe once a month. Having the diet on point is defo the thing pulling me through 6 days a week of exercise. That and stretches lol.

Yeah, I WFH 3 or 4 days a week and basically take 1.5 hour lunchbreaks and spend an hour working out

It's a huge game changer in keeping up with it. I have adjustable dumbbells (can get 2 of them up to 25kg with weights I've got), a bench and a barbell. Thiink at some point though I might consider doing a gym session once or twice a week to expand what I have available.

It's so good eh.

Do you have weights for your barbell? Defo gotta expand the weights you've got and get a rack, or go to the gym for great results I'd say.

I can use the same weight plates as for the dumbbells. I use it for a bicep curl, a bent over row, romanian deadlift and shoulder press at the moment. Which what i have plate wise is fine for. What I really want to do is a proper bench press which I could set up but would need to get heavier weights I think. I do a chest press with dumbells at the moment (flat and incline) and I'm at the max of my weights (25kgs).

whats up muscle men and women

im back training after a very very long lapse and aside from being weak as all hell im not doing so bad - im at 3 times a week for 1.5hrs ish a time and feeling ok with it, making an effort to push myself but not overdo it - the only free weight thing ive not done yet is squats due to some rack related performance anxiety but ill get it in the next couple of weeks

anyway - im here because im a soyboy beta vegetarian, and am probably not getting all the good meaty nutrients i need. i got some creatine monohydrate because i read that basically they are all the same if you just get the mono one, so thats fine - but im wondering about if i need protein etc? if i did i would want plant based so i think its either pea or rice based? the problem is ive googled it and every site looks shady as strawberry float and im sorry but im not buying 10 kilos of 'giga beast i eat bairns' powder with a picture of a gorilla strawberry floating a dog on it, so does anyone have any suggestions?

another one i noticed is i drank lucozade sport instead of water whilst i was training and it really seemed to help - is this down to the sugar or placebo?

It is an obvious target for ridicule, but for me the Huel shake is very very useful. It's vegan as well – I think it would suit your needs perfectly.

In addition, get into the routine of batch-preparing overnight oats. Use whichever milk replacement you prefer, and find a vegan protein powder that replicates whey powder. Stick whatever else you want in it that goes well, for example fruit (I use a frozen mixed bag) and chia seeds.

On the Lucozade question, sugar converts quickly into energy, so it wouldn't be a surprise to find it gives you a boost. The electrolytes will aid hydration as well, making you feel more alert. Personally, I would recommend getting used to your training in a way that doesn't require anything more than water/squash at the time, with a carb-rich meal 1.5 hours or so before you get to the gym to see you through.

And yeah, don't buy any of that stupid weird giga beat gorilla gooseberry fool on the internet .

i need to try overnight oats tbh - but the same problem crops up in your suggestion there - which vegan powder do i get and where from?

i think the hope is that if i get the rest of the gooseberry fool i need in my diet then i wont need the lucozade and can return to just water

Are you a vegetarian or vegan? Most protein powders are milk based but MyProtein offers plant protein alternatives. Usually competitively priced too and you don't need to buy an enormous 10KG bag to start with either.

This looks like your best bet at first glance: https://www.myprotein.com/sports-nutrition/brown-rice-protein/10530779.html

Seriously though, give Huel a look. I'm going to sound like a fanatic if I keep going on about it :slol: but it provides pretty much everything you need (your normal macros and all the vitamins/nutrients required to thrive) for about £1.50 a shake, and it tastes better than 'normal' protein shakes I've tried in the past.
