Yeah that looks about right. I've got a decent number of them but still a few I'd like to fill out a bit. Ratchet and Clank are always a good time so might look at getting them at some point.

That said what I might focus on looking for is stuff that wasn't exclusive to Ps3/360 but that have never been ported anywhere else. Must be a good chunk of stuff there.

Ratchet & Clank on PS3 is really goldmine and it's crime that they haven't been made available on PS4. Jak & Daxter trilogy escapes this fate but not Sly/Ratchet&Clank.

Worth doing list for that, yeah. Afaik as you said in post before that there's Soul Calibur IV which isn't available anywhere else. (I'm pretty sure you can play it on Xbox One but I might be misremembring)

That sounds neat, Victor. I did a little digging and I think it did get a UK/Europe release for PS3, 360 and Wii; copies on eBay sell from £10 to £35.

Hey, you've got a US copy and I'm sure that Cappy would be proud of that, Victor!

As far as I know it was never released on anything else, though it may be on the PS+ streaming thing. Not sure on the Xbox version either, but I'm pretty sure it's the same. Might be on Gamepass or Xcloud I guess.

But yeah I was a big SC IV fan. Spent hours in the character creator making a buff as strawberry float Bishop with a white afro popping out from under his big Bishops hat. Used Raphaels Fencing moveset as well.
Pretty sure I made He-Man as well.

There's a Splinter Cell and Prince of Persia HD Collection on PS3; I think the Prince of Persia one is still the definitive way to play the PS2/Xbox era POP titles, but Splinter Cell unfortunately doesn't fare the same way, with the ports being all over the place. Faux widescreen and framerate being the main issues. Plus of course no multiplayer.

Talking of Soul Calibur IV, it's been very recently removed from the PlayStation 3 store. It was part of a NAMCO Tekken Tag 2 bundle but now says "disc only".

Soul Calibur IV was on 360, disc only, but isn’t backwards compatible.

Decided to open up one of my Dual Shock 3 controllers this morning ( :dread: ) and see if I could fix the fault causing the controller to think I’m pressing buttons I’m not. Blew some dust out, unscrewed the computer board, blew some more dust out, and put a bit of additional cardboard under the foam strip to raise it up, which wasn’t too difficult. Had more problems trying to put back one of those blasted metal clips that hold the bumpers in place. Of course one of the screws then fell on the floor so I had to go hunting around for that…

So far however, touch wood, it appears to have solved the issue. The battery is also dead, but would be extremely easy to replace.

On one hand it’s rather shoddily made, completely at odds with the PS3 console itself, but on the other it does make it pretty easy to fix. If I can do it, and I’m the benchmark for having no clue what I’m doing, anyone with hands and eyes can manage it. And a magnetic Philips screwdriver…mustn’t forget that.

If it helps you can use PS4 or PS5 controller with PS3, so there's that. I think the issue with them though you cant go to PS3 home with the ps button, which was odd. Might be misremembering that

Shame Sony hasn’t officially issued a firmware update for that because funnily enough they’re still issuing new updates for the PS3. In fact there was one when I turned it on Friday. Not sure what they’re for though. The PS4/5 pads are a massive improvement over 3, but the other issues are that the rumble doesn’t work and neither does motion control.

Talking of Sony, Jim Ryan’s given an interview to the PS Podcast (‘you’re all fired as well, lol’) and revealed the PS2 has actually sold 160 million: https://blog.playstation.com/2024/03/29 ... o-you-jim/

DF Retro do a MASSIVE (2hr 46m) look at the PS1 launch and its titles.

EDIT: The Mahjong segment around 44 minutes is good fun.

I haven't watched this yet but I'm looking forward to doing so, Dev!

Meanwhile, I'm excited about checking out these two lengthy vids as well; all 1080p games on the PS3 and a look at all games on the Sega 32X :toot: .

Yeah I meant to post them as well. Both great videos to dip in and out of. :D

I wonder which editors EDGE (Redeye, #104, December 2001) and PSM2 (#31, January 2003) magazines were actually referring to here?

PSM2 Editorial wrote:Look at some other reviews out there - every time they swap a score for a weekend on the slopes, there's tears before bedtime, but when Johnny Publisher drops by with two tickets to Oktoberfest, they can't resist. No willpower, see.

RedEye, EDGE wrote:The whole PR junket thing is a maze, inked in tight moral code, and there isn't an easy solution, but there are bribes and bribes: RedEye's stargazing has pushed him into insomnia, but where does all this leave the two Editors who, this month, sold their magazine and readership out in exchange for holidays for them and their girlfriends; who pre-arranged fawning reviews and, in doing so, traded their souls and any dignity they had? Or what about the marketing and PR execs who arranged the 'deal', or the publishers who were privy to it, or anyone who knew it was happening and didn't say anything. How are they sleeping tonight? Short answer: probably soundly, wrapped in duvet covers stitched from cum-stained dolar bills and lined with gold. Shorter answer: who cares? Burn in hell, you conscienceless bastards.

I'm presuming one of the non-entity mags of that period, such as PSi-2 or P2, as there was only really PlayStation 2 magazines around in Winter of 2001.

RedEye was one of the things in EDGE that was always worth reading.

Bought Super Paper Mario on a whim in town, expecting the Wii I've had sitting around for twelve years to still be fine. It may well be but the Wii Remote had batteries in it and must have had something spill on it because it's an absolute mess. :dread:

In trying to clear up the corrosion it turns out one of the metal spring contacts has been eaten away completely, so I'm on the lookout for a new controller.

Is my best bet just to brave CEX again? Their prices aren't dreadful but I imagine it'll be pot luck on the overall condition. Are there any half decent knockoffs I should look at instead since I probably won't actually be using this a huge amount?

Don't leave batteries in stuff! CeX should be fine or Facebook marketplace. Can always check before you buy

Consider buying a working one but swapping the shells, or if it's just the connectors those parts. I know from my launch day Wiimote on the floor debacle that they come apart pretty easily!

I know, I couldn't quite believe I had done something that stupid! I think CeX will be the easiest solution. They also have a couple of sensor bars which I must have also misplaced. Wii stuff is weirdly cheap compared to DS/3DS.

Honestly I don't think any part of it is worth keeping. There's some permanent staining on a couple of the buttons. :fp:

Annoyingly I know I must have the Skyward Sword gold remote somewhere since I've found the back of the battery compartment.

Weird you bought up the Wii today as I got a Wii > HDMI adapter thing delivered and I finally got around to installing custom firmware on it so I could play games from SD card and also run non UK region disks.

I luckily have all my controllers in tact, but booting up the Wii for the first time in forever felt really weird, feels so odd to use the Wiimote now!
