That the one upstairs in the back corner of the indoor shopping centre that literally strawberry floating no one has ever gone in? Now they've got the store in Liverpool One, I reckon both the Game and the St John's Gamestation could easily both go.

There's two in Leeds within spitting distance of each other too.

They moved the Game to a bigger unit in a better location as well, right at the top of the escalators, and it's actually got quieter

Merry Hill on the other hand could do with losing some, 2 games, 1 gamestation and a game in debenhams :fp: :fp: :fp:

I don't want either of them to close, although Gamestation is better because it doesn't have GAME Radio. I odn't know anyone in GAME anymore either, it looks like the entire staff have changed. :|

Aye, exactly. It used to be pretty much what my ideal game shop would be. Then GAME got their filthy hands on it. :x

When did they get rid of it? :|

No idea exactly, maybe 18 months ago? (At least). I don't go there anymore, so it could have been before that. Last I heard it was loads of 360 demo consoles down there.

Is the new game store any good? Playable consoles etc or just a larger store? The entire staff were 30-something utter morons with no clue about games and totally unhelpful last time I went in to see how much I could get for trade ins just after christmas, swore I wouldn't buy anything from them from them now. Always overpriced and offer gooseberry fool trade-in value.

It's just bigger really I preferred the old store tbh. I went in today and there was what looked like a 40+ year old guy working behind the counter. Tried to sell us a preowned L4D2 at £27.99 instead of the new one at £29.99. strawberry float off do I care about that £2.

:fp:

The only time I go into redditch now is to trade stuff in, usually at CEX for the cash. Apart from when my console died the week before ME2, I honestly cannot remember the last time I brought anything from either game or gamestation in store, I just get them online. And with the supermarkets willing to lost profits to do over game stores like with MW2, I can't see them being around much longer.

Second-hand games and peripherals aside, why would anyone buy a brand new title in GAME when there's Asda, Amazon and Play?

The staff in these shops are usually the main problem for me. GAME are useless and half the people who work in Gamestation are just knobs. I can't put my finger on what it is, but the same breed of knob can be found working in guitar shops.

Haven't a clue, they changed it to that... 360 floor for a time, but then it just vanished for good.
I think I heard something about the lease with Microsoft had expired, so I'm not sure why they didn't just make it back into the retro floor.

It was the one thing that made that Gamestation stand out from every other game shop in the country, now hardly any Gamestation's even stock retro stuff... :( Even the retro cupboard which most Gamestations used to have is now the "Casual gaming cupboard" that's just full of copies of Singstar :fp:

There's a Game in St Johns?

I knew there was a Gamestation but not a Game. Haven't been in there for years.

well they just spent ages doing up the new gamestation / old game next to maplin, and i cant imagine them closing the one in the centre as it probably makes money out of kids who go from there straight to the Disney store,

i miss the old style gamestation before game took them over next to the station all the retro games next to the till picked up an n64 in there for £30

GAME carry titles that you won't get in Supermarkets. The other two are online retailers, and thus require the use of a debit card. Not a big factor for an adult, but a bit of a pain if you're a kid.

No it didn't, they closed the one that was in the corner but only so they move next to what was Zavvi. It's always dead in there though, they've cut most of the staff's hours so much they are hardly in now as they need so few people on during the day. I can see them keeping the St John's Gamestation though as it is usually pretty busy especially at the weekend or for a big release.

Same thing happened to me a few years ago when I applied at the Clayton Square Game apparently I was nearly given a job but the manager went with a girl who had applied with instead... who he then had an affair with and got kicked out house by his wife.

Last time I went there and the basement was open, there were loads of pods, and great big gaming statues down there. I was there begining of Feb this year, and although the bottom is closed, there is still a pretty meaty retro selection.

Yeah? Nice.

Do they still have the checkouts labelled 'Player 1', 'Player 2', etc?
