Hopefully not either GS or Game in Ayr are one of these :( Either way, this really sucks for those who are working in these places, especially at this time.

Bromley had 1 Gamestation and 2 GAME. Now they moved Gamestation from the train station to one of the game next to Maplin but there one still in the shopping cente. I wonder if one will close.

Did you know there are no DVD shops in Camden since Virgin/Zavvi shut, I had to go to strawberry floating Bond St when I was at my dad's over Christmas. Then about a week ago I get my mate ringing me while he was in Camden to ask where all the DVD shops were. I should open a DVD shop :shifty:

In Liverpool there are two Gamestations and two Games in the city centre. I fully expect one of each to go (St Johns and Clayton Sq branches probably, as the other ones are nearer to Liverpool One).

I had been thinking of applying for a job at a local games retailer late last year but was told they usually get their staff by keeping on some of the Christmas temps that they have in so decided against it in the end and started looking at getting into the industry as a tester instead.

I wouldn't be surprised to see one of the Leicester stores close anyway. I hardly use any of them myself though. Even with loyalty points etc you still get better deals with the online retailers and supermarket stores nowadays and that is something that GAME will have to look at, it's not like it really has the luxury of falling back onto the DVD or CD market like HMV or Jewellery like Argos because it's primary funding is retailing games.

Aye. And a CEX as well. Always baffled me why they've got two GAMEs about a minute's walk apart.

Well that says goodbye to at least one GAME store in Plymouth. Odds are two GAME stores will close leaving just a GAME, Gamestation and CEX.

:(

Many a bargain I have picked up was from the Debenhams GAME store.

There are 3 GAMEs in my town. One of them is in Debenhams, and has never had that many customers.
I also remember that there are 2 GAMEs in Meadowhall, almost directly opposite each other. With a Gamestation very near that too.

All the Debenhams stores are closing? That's a disappoint, now there'll only be two Games and a Gamestation in my local shopping centre :(

The Debenhams one has some of the better staff, too. Hopefully they'll all be given jobs to replace some of the twits in the proper Game store.

smurphy wrote:In Dundee the Gamestation is directly across the road from Game, then there's another Game in a shopping centre 30 seconds away, then another in a Debenhams 30 seconds in the other direction and another in a Borders a little further away than that :fp:

The Borders one went for a burton when Borders went bust. The Debenhams one is obviously for the chop according to this press release.

The only question is whether they'll keep both the Game and Gamestation open. It's possible they might - they do tend to focus on different things - Game has a real focus on the preowned software, whereas Gamestation plays more to preowned hardware and release titles, I find.

You're spot on though smurphy - it was only a matter of time before Game was forced to do some consolidation up here. I'm just surprised that it's taken as long as it has.

'bout time they had a restructure. Horrible shops to go in. A few closures should do them good.

Feel sorry for the blokes working there though - well the ones who take care in their appearance anyway. The rest of them should find equal oppurtunities in their local fast food chain.

Very true, and with both TESCO and ASDA now moving into the pre-owned market the specialists and indies had better pull their socks up.

While I feel for those who will lose their jobs, when GAME are asking up to £42.99 for pre-owned titles just because they're a new release/popular its not hard to see why it's all going pear shaped.

The reason they have stores so close to each other is that some of them used to be Electronics Boutique, they just converted them into GAME stores and didn't take the cost savings at the time.

This had to happen sooner or later because some of these stores like the two in Wolverhampton are on the same street with a Gamestation around the corner, it doesn't generate any extra business just splits the business between more outlets.

While that's true, GAME have been reporting some very uninspiring figures of recent which no doubt helped move this decision along.

Indeed, however I tend to go to the bigger one, they have more preowned stuff out and I prefer the more open-plan layout....you go to wolverhampton? I haven't seen anyone buying armfulls of stuff recently.... :shifty:

I remember in Swindon there used to be 3 GAMEs and a Gamestation in the town centre, that was excessive.

I work in Wolverhampton, I live 13 miles away the other side of Cannock. I rarely buy games in store anymore as obviously it is a lot cheaper online, even then I used to use Game Online a lot but hardly ever these days apart from hardware. I've just had Heavy Rain and White Knight Chronicles delivered a day early by The Hut for £34 each, Game really need to up there er......game.

 Did you get on with the staff? Wasn't the best salesmen but I'm sure it helped that I got on with everyone that I was kept on

Wonder if my old store is about to close?

There interview setup was rubbish, they took on people they already knew..you were put into groups of like 6 and was clambering to be heard...i had to have two loud blokes in my group who spoke over me..it was stupid.

I'm actually happy there closing, now the 'up their own arses and extremely weird' managers and workers know what it feels like to be unemployed! gutted!
