Part of me is interested in playing this at some point. Just to see if they made a better game. Thought Remake was really overrated. Hated the changes in it.

Hope it's good and you all enjoy it.

Did anyone elses physical copy from Amazon show up this morning or just me?

Annoying thing is I still don't think I'm gonna have a chance to really play it till Friday. :fp:

So intro out the way and I'm up to where I assume the Nibelheim demo section started.

I doubt the intro was included in the demo so I'm going to spoiler this next bit.

Intro spoilers

What the actual strawberry float is happening?
How can they be in the ruins of Midgard AND in Kalm?
All I can think is that the events of the previous game "split" reality and there are now two versions of the characters.
One set moving through the established (but slightly different) events of the original and another set in the hands of Shinra.
It also lets them have their cake and eat it by "killing" an Aerith right at the start of the game.

Those crazy bastards.

Also "weather warfare" is how Shinra try and blame Avalanche for the destruction.
Putin levels of bollocks.

I'm really interested to see where this goes. :D

Also, if you haven't already download the demo and have some save data on the HDD. Same with Remake AND Intergrade. There are "bonuses" to be unlocked if you have the save data from those three on your HDD.

And calling it a night about an hour in.

Loving it so far. Something about that world and those characters are just so comforting. Like going home.

Regarding your intro spoiler

I think the ending of the last game established there are two timelines being shown now. The party’s actions through the game, and defeating the big Harbinger of Fate thing or whatever it’s called, changed other past “fated” events (Zack’s death on the Midgar outskirts) causing a new timeline where he’s still alive. I *assume* this means that the parts of Cloud’s story and identity that are impacted by Zack’s death no longer happen in the Zack timeline and he never joins up with AVALANCHE, which would change things in even wilder ways.

Yeah I'd forgotten some of the detail of the ending, but that's pretty much what I'm thinking. :D

there’s something odd though. Zack’s come forward in time to arrive after the last game

Played 3 hours so far. It's so classy. Just feels like a very special and polished game. The way the systems all work together is very well done.

The open world is so far great and the card game which I thought I would hate is very enjoyable.

I don’t think the events from the start to leaving Midgar took place over very long. Maybe 3 days? When Tifa finds Cloud he looks like it’s pretty much right after Zack’s death.

And from the scenes at 7th Heaven after the bombing mission it seems like they went straight to work as Cloud and Tifa hadn’t had time to catch up.

You could consider that Zack is just arriving as they are all dead because it’s taken him longer, in his near death state, to carry Cloud to the city while evading capture than it would have taken Cloud to get there alone with no pursuers. Maybe he even stopped to recover for a day or two.

The very end of the first game, as Zack from his timeline was arriving as the main party were leaving, seemed to be suggesting that’s how the timing worked out anyway, which was raising the question of how the party was going to manage on their missions without Cloud. The biggest question for me really is what is Aerith doing there? What was the incentive for her to team up with AVALANCHE, and why were they infiltrating Shinra HQ if not to rescue her specifically? I get that she might have been in the building anyway as captured by the Turks, and they’d recruit RedXIII as he’s in the same lab, but why go after her at all?

I can only assume that with the Whispers gone, Jessie doesn’t get her ankle hurt, goes on the second mission, falls in place of Cloud, recruits Aerith. OR Jessie doesn’t get her leg unstuck in mission one, dies, Biggs goes with the main party in mission two, falls and takes a much bigger beating than Cloud from it, which is why at the end of Remake he’s seen recovering in bed. That bed’s in Aerith’s house, she joined the party while helping him out.
