As a complete aside, mental issues often have little to do with intelligence. One of my friends has recently been diagnosed as bipolar, but he's also really clever. Interesting use of the word "stupid" there, incidentally...

DML wrote:By what I just said, it would 'leave the continuing impression' that you aren't learning from your own past mistakes.

But were they actually "mistakes"? That's the question! That's what I'm trying to get a handle on here.

DML wrote:Anyway, I've had enough of this now, I won't post anything else.

No need to bow out of the thread, DML. We're capable of working through our issues constructively in time, I'm sure.

It doesn't help when you have Moderators directing schoolyard names at forumites for absolutely nothing.

I voted a while ago and my vote made it 34 both sides. It's been remarkably close all day.

Nonsense! This is by far the most entertaining thread in GRcade history!

I'm surprised that nobody has yet worked out that tnny instigated this thread in order for the mods to find out exactly who is "against us" (via the phpBB3 poll results mod) and therefore needs to be placed on the Watch List TM. :D

For strawberry float sake man, don't enough people want my guts for garters already? Jokes like that don't help!!

Roonmastor wrote:But despite not being too bothered about him gaining modship, I also considered whether we seemed to need any new mods, what effect such changes would have to the board and to Eighthours' behaviour. I think you'll find the stricter ban rules on GRcade compared to GR means that we probably don't need more mods. Kiran did next to nothing back on GR, so we only lost one. We gained Garth, so we're even. We have two active admins instead on one fairly active. If anything, we are up.

I beg to differ and you seriously underestimate the contribution of one of GR's best-ever Mods. Eighty worked his socks off when he was a Mod on the old forum and I feel sure GRcade will benefit greatly from his enthusiasm, intellect and sense of fairplay. I highlighted your repeated, tacit, endorsement again, just to underline the point for those who might have missed it the first time around. Sorry about that. ;)

Wut.

Is this one of those famous jokey posts I'm unable to comprehend?

Help me out here.

Which bit, tnman? Donating because you want to keep the place running isn't a joke. We're all here because we want GR to live on and I feel all the old vets should at least throw a bit towards keeping it running for the next good while.

And Cal has blatantly went power mad, so that isn't a joke either. It is really.

For my two cents, I voted "no".

For you see, I enjoy Eighthours' in your face attitude, and how he has no problem arguing that someone is a complete eejit. HOWEVER, I feel that a moderator should not really do that, and should always be understanding until the end (like Garth, who is always helpful, no matter what the post is), and so Eight would probably have to soften his edges if he was a mod, which I don't really want.

And the stuff about "spurring debate in GGC" (or something along those lines), I don't think you need a mod panel to do that. And if we need a new mod to keep consolegaming in check, then it makes me wonder what our current mods are doing as there isn't exactly a flood of moderation needed at the moment. And as someone else said, we gained Garth, and we now have two regular administrators, rather than none, so I don't see the need for anything to change.

The thread has been moving so fast I probably missed some points, but I'll add them if they come up. :o

HOWEVER, I do like the idea of mods specialising in a certain folder, and that is definitely something worth investigating if the place gets a bit busier. But at the moment, it's GR vets enjoying still being on GR. We don't really need much moderation.

Why, pray tell, would Eighthours need to be a mod for us to benefit from his contributions to the forum?

The No's (is it noes?) are pulling away from the pack. Could this be the beginning of the end for Eighthours?

Could be! :D

This might be a photo-finish. It'll be hilarious if it ends up tied.
