From a material point of view you're spot on. It is nice having a definitive date on the calendar for some new games news though, especially when Nintendo and Sony like to spring things on us at a moment's notice.

I used to love the build-up to E3 and the thrill of seeing the publishers show off their upcoming games; I enjoyed the buzz around it.

In more recent times I've cooled on the event, though, and that's more because of the seemingly high volume of negative vibes from some folks sharing their views online. I know, of course, that everyone is free to share whatever they think about the games shown but, to me, a degree of pessimism has grown to overshadow the event. I understand that, considering the unfinished, shoddy state that many larger games now launch in, some of the criticism is justified but I do now steer clear of anyone live-streaming their views alongside the shows and I subsequently try to avoid reading too much about them afterwards.

Such is why I only talk of what I enjoyed from the events these days. Especially painful when I look back at my older articles to find myself praising everything and just sounding repetitive, or else dumping those things I'm not interested in at the beginning in one or two paragraphs (not that I said anything bad or negative about them in those paragraphs).

1. A BIG game was due to be announced at E3, my sources tell me it would have been a big announcement
2. A returning popular IP was to get a trailer
3. A beloved game series is getting remade and a trailer was due to be shown at E3

OK SO, UM, NOW WE WILL HAVE TO WAIT UNTIL AN UNDISCLOSED TIME TO HEAR ABOUT THESE, BUT TRUST ME MY SOURCE SAYS THESE ARE COMING, POSSIBLY IN THE FUTURE.

Wow. Huge if true.

Most of the best E3s ever have been in the past decade.

I wonder if this will accelerate a death to E3 which has already been populated for the past few years. Be a real shame

Imagine strawberry floating up your product this badly. This was inconceivable pre-pandemic, but they did an awful, awful job adapting.

How hard was it moving to a digital only format? Can understand the in person E3 was slowing down over the years but you’d have thought a properly laid out digital one would be cleaning up, hopefully Nintendo will still do a summer direct around June to fill that E3 hole

Interested to see how Microsoft and Nintendo time their events this summer as they are usually E3 week. Will they both time it round Summer Games Fest opening night or will they just choose random dates over the summer?

Do they even have a product if they're not selling people floor space?

I dont see what they can offer digitally that companies can't do themselves

Digital E3 has been wank the past couple of years so not to disappointed to see it not happen again but it is sad that this is probably the death knell for the show in any guise. People seem to have been so desperate to predict it's demise for years but I always loved watching that weeks announcements and seeing the show floor displays and if this is the end it's a real shame.

This is the perfect time for Luton council to swoop in and bid for the new E3.

That'll give the show a much-needed dose of glamour.

Exactly how I feel. I loved those few days of information overload, it was genuinely exciting.
