I was just reading about this over at PushSquare.

It's ghastly that the game had tremendous reviews and a really positive vibe around it... and then they chuck in a load of micro transactions on launch day - after reviews have been published. The vibe has changed and Capcom have muddied the waters.

Just started this on PS5 , hmmmmmm, well it's a great looking PS3 game.

Clunky, slow and dated. Hopefully it opens op and gets better soon.

Obviously don't want to be the best developer (as far as scores go) two years in a row

Its really scummy behaviour though, taken this from a maybe when on sale (when I've played the first one) to probably never.

I was watching Moist critikal's stream of this earlier, and the game crashed on him all the time.

The framerate struggled to keep 30fps (can imagine it being much worse on ps5)... was semi tempted to get this on release but it seems better to wait (got ff7 to finish anyways) and see if they turn it around as it feels like this has been released some months earlier than it should. The microtransaction for things that are key to gameplay sound really really bad as well.

Charging real money to customise your character in a single-player game is a new low. Now I know why Capcom are trending on Twitter.

According to Reddit As well as auto saves be#irking peoples games, the one save things is going well im DD2z People have been trying to delete their saves on pc so they can start again and the capcom copy protection is detecting it as a new activation and bricking their capcom accounts.

The first game was decent but had a lot wrong with it. Sounds like this one addresses a lot of the issues but that they've strawberry floated it up in other ways. I guess they might fix some of the problems down the line, as is the norm these days. Can't say I'm too interested myself though.

Seems like they listened to some of the backlash, not having the option to start a new game was criminal

I’m not surprised at Capcom adding micro transactions for single player games. Didn’t they do the same thing for RE remakes?

But fast travel locked to a micro transaction does take the piss.

That's not really what it is.

You fast travel using Ferrystones. Theses a pretty rare in game but can be bought for 10k (pricey but not beyond reason)

You fast travel to PortCrystals. There are (I believe) 5 of these in the world that are permanent. The first major city has one. One of the towns has one. (Several towns don't and the 2nd city does)

You can find in the world TempPortCrystals - which you can put down to make your own Fast Travel Location (you can also pick up and move them). These are exceedingly rare in the game (I've found 1 in a good chunk of play)

It's the TPCs that Capcom are selling. So you can set up more locations to travel to - but it still needs the semi-rare item to do so, those aren't for sale. So the MTX don't let to fast travel more, just to a wider variety.

A quest tonight sent me on a long trip to deliver a letter. Through a dungeon (Cyclops' and Minotaurs oh my)....to the third area! I don't think I'm suppose to be here as everything is walloping me (level 32). It's still the same monsters as when you first start the game though :D

But unless I buy a ferrystone there's no way back short of long run through dungeon and overworld - and then there's not PortCrystal here to get back :(. £1.69 is looking pretty tempting...

They did it for Resident Evil 4 (and maybe some others) but they tended to wait for 2 weeks after launch.

This has been done as soon as the launch came out, quite blatantly to avoid reviewers seeing it and mentioning it before release (as we're the other examples I suppose but they were at least a couple of weeks post launch).

The killer here though is that Dragon's Dogma has some quite obtuse systems which then makes it feel like they were designed that way to make paying to bypass them more appealing, which is likely not true judging by the first game.

Fast travel is not locked behind a microtransaction, you can earn the items in the game, it is just very rare and you get very few of them.

Edit: I feel like the game makers at Capcom are not being overly impeded by the forces desperate to squeeze microtransaction into their games. I get the sense that the game is made however the dev team want, and then the money men consult with them as to what microtransactions can be added (without changing the original vision or difficulty etc).

This is obviously not ideal but you can just ignore it and play the game without, as it was (probably!) originally intended. It's just with Dragon's Dogma the original game's vision is to have some slightly obtuse systems which encourage less fast travel (a la Dark Souls or, y'know Dragon's Dogma 1)etc, but it just looks like a cash grab when you view it with the lens of microtransactions.
