Sense the Danger

With the all-new Kinect, the zombie horde can hear beyond the screen and respond to noises inside your living room.

A load more info here - http://www.xbox.com/en-US/xbox-one/games/dead-rising-3

Dead Rising 3's optional use of the Xbox One's mandatory Kinect gifts its zombies with a level of situational awareness you may not want them to have, truth be told. "They can hear," a Capcom representative told us during a demonstration at E3. "If you want to call a zombie or distract [a zombie], you just yell at your Kinect and they'll respond to you."

Sounds useful in a stealth situation, but what if you're not as good at staying quiet as you'd like, or your roommate comes home at a tense moment, taking the frustration of his lousy day out on your front door? Are the zombies listening that closely?

"That's part of the joke," executive producer Josh Bridge said. We asked whether the zombies would respond to specific words or just sounds in general, and while exact details regarding the mechanic won't be revealed until further into production, "for the most part, zombies don't understand English." Bridge added that the microphone sensitivity will be tuned to a "threshold that makes sense," so that attracting zombies will, by and large, feel like an intentional decision. Of course, the functionality can be disabled entirely.

Will this be a useful thing? I doubt it.

Those of you idiots saying its changing for the better, part of the problem and you should end yourselves. A genuinely unique standalone product changed into an utter failure of a mimicry. Pitiful.

Dead Rising 3, the third installment in Capcom's open-world survival horror series, will launch exclusively on Xbox One this holiday, it was announced today during Microsoft's E3 press conference.

The game is set three days after a massive outbreak in Los Perdidos and stars new protagonist Nick Ramos. Footage shown during today's conference featured Ramos walking through the ruined town, taking on zombies with a massive wrench. Based on his clothing, he appears to be a mechanic. Hordes of zombies packed the screen, and Ramos took to the rooftops to try and get to a safehouse in the city center.

The game will be open world with no load times. Anything and everything in a weapon, but players won't be limited to what they find. The game will feature a crafting system that will allow players to build new weapons. In the footage Ramos strapped a gun to a flashlight.

Zombies will be attracted to players' every move, but there are ways to distract them. Ramos sent up a flare and the zombies moved away towards it. Players can also sprint through clusters of zombies and attempt to evade them, or simply take them down with their weapons.

Driving will be a critical part of exploration as you scavenge for supplies and will be the best way to get around. Groups of zombies can slow down your car if you run into them, and the zombies can also climb on the car and attempt to break in.

The game will use also use SmartGlass. Players can use it to call in an air strike and bomb hordes of zombies.

The first Dead Rising launched in Aug. 2006 exclusively for Xbox 360. The story centered on photojournalist Frank West trapped in a mall filled with zombies. A sequel starring new protagonist Chuck Greene, Dead Rising 2, was developed in partnership with Blue Castle Games and was released for PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and Windows PC in Sept. 2010. Dead Rising 2: Off the Record, a reimagining of the game with Frank West as the protagonist, launched for PS3, Xbox 360 and PC in Oct. 2011.

He said exclusive

So?

Yeah, the wording was exclusive this holiday, so, it's almost certainly either a 6 or 12 month exclusive. Should see a PS4 port in mid-late 2014.

This game... :dread:

Why so brown and gritty? Ugh, I think I'll be taking a miss on this. Also, No Frank again! Why do Capcom keep trying to force these new MC's on us when Frank is the face of DR?

That wasn't what that was. Zombies need to strawberry float off.

But Dead Rising has never been about being super serious. That's more Resident Evil, while DR is more light hearted and more about just having fun.

By the point this launches I think serious zombie games will probably have reached saturation point. :dread:

I haven't seen the full video but posts in the live MS event thread suggested it had kept some of its humour.

DR 2 had a similar look to the first game and yet it turned out average at best. And while I don't like the look of this new one (reminds me of HD Resi games, bad HD Resi games) I think jumping down its throat right off the bat is a bit harsh. Feel free to slag of exclusivity and SmartGlass features though.

Probably will be a decent enough game, but it lacks a unique identity the previous games had.
