And when a group of professional reporters (some of the best ones in their field, according to the GMAs!), like a gooseberry fool version of the Stanford Prison Experiment, prove under laboratory conditions that their ethical code and good sense can be swayed in thirty seconds by exactly one Playstation 3, when professional reporters shout down and censor one of their own for naming names, when major publications refuse to cover misconduct in their own profession, the idea of games journalism as a medium being just fine and dandy where industry influence and peer-to-peer cronyism is involved becomes utterly laughable; an infant bawling that it doesn't need nappies but continuing to wet the strawberry floating bed all the same.

This almost makes me sad, knowing that I will never be able to write so something so fitting yet hilarious, about anything, ever.

Would it be possible to nominate Florence for a GMA next year?

From the start of the month:

Dan Griliopoulos (former reviews editor on OXM 360), Twitter wrote:I know, on OXM 360's first issue, the Microsoft games were scored high by management, but it never happened again.

The issue and reviews in question:

The credited reviewers were Ben Talbot & Justin Thyme respectively.

A rare admittance of wrong doing.

Jim Sterling sticks his oar in once again.

Take a good, long look at every site you enjoy. I can only speak for myself, but I welcome the scrutiny, and your decision as to whether or not we're worthy of your readership. If you decide we're too friendly with the games industry to do you a service, then it's a consequence I embrace. If you decide we are capable of giving you honest analysis of the game industry, then I can only be grateful for you allowing us to do that. In any case, it's given me and others a lot to think about, and those of us who did not simply close ranks on this issue will likely continue to think about what we've done and how we can improve. Maybe Destructoid is doing something wrong. Maybe I'm failing you as reviews editor somewhere. I like to think about this, because I believe we can always get better.

Apology from Stephen Totilo over on Penny Arcade:
Hi folks,

I do regret the dismissive tone of that comment Ben quoted. Calling it not very important was a miscue because, a) the incident in and of itself was interesting and should have been an item on our site and b) the larger issues of distrust of the games press that have flared up again around this certainly are important. Giving a damn about whether the press can be trusted is always important, and I didn't mean to belittle anyone's concerns about that.

I did clarify yesterday that I am in fact working on a story about this. I noted as much below the comment that Ben quoted, writing: "I'd not thought there was enough new or noteworthy here for a story, but reaction to my comments over the weekend has convinced me otherwise." ( http://kotaku.com/5955226/the-best-o...&post=53934128)

The proof's in the pudding, so feel free to reserve any further judgment until we actually run something, but I do apologize for making it seemed like I don't care about concerns about journalism ethics because I certainly do.

Top of the page. Just showing off his tweets that don't paint him in a good light.

David Scammell ‏@VG_Dave wrote:THQ's requesting links to previous coverage of WWE 13 when requesting review code. Hmm.

Wrestling journalists exposed the various "stipulations" THQ attach to their WWE reviews a few years back. They simply printed the long list of demands that so many outlets adhere to.

EDGE also alluded to it at one point I believe prior to that.

This is a real kick in the nuts for folk who genuinely love writing about games.

Well you know what they say. When it comes crashing down, and it hurts inside, you've gotta take a stand, it don't help to hide.

When it comes crashing down, and it hurts inside,
ya' gotta take a stand, it don't help to hide,
Well, you hurt my friends, and you hurt my pride,
I gotta be a man; I can't let it slide,
Fight for the rights of every man,
fight for what's right, fight for your life

I feel strong about right and wrong,
And I don't take trouble for very long,
I got something deep inside of me, and courage is the thing that keeps us free

Song about games journalism from the 1980s.
