Angry Joe gets called out by IGNs review editor for misquoting their Titanfall review

Amazing scenes, here.

Joe is in the wrong as he quoted their preview when talking about reviews, but the IGN guy is a clown.

First of all he wrote that bilge in the preview so you'd think he'd have some shame and just hide forever, but he then goes on to argue at length that they didn't give it a 9/10, because he gave it an 8.9.

He is right in pointing out that a preview does not represent a proper judgement though, so Joe ought to at least apologise for that if he wants to be the bigger man.

Angry's Joe's error is administrative only. Sure a preview is not the same as a review, previews are initial thoughts of a non-final product and should be written in a tone of 'cautious optimism.' This IGN writer is upset that his preview comments were used by Angry Joe in a criticism of gushing reviews. However if a IGN writer in a preview decides to make unequivocal statements about a game's quality he cannot then later disassociate himself from them. Ryan McCaffrey of IGN said in his preview
"This is Microsoft's killer app... You will buy an Xbox One for Titanfall, and you should. Sure, you will have a good time with PC if you've got a capable rig but your couch and the Xbox Live community will be the ecosystem it's best enjoyed in."

Well excuse me but that is a review statement saying Titanfall is of such high quality it is a 'killer app' and it provides a better experience than the PC version! Why on Earth is a professional games critic making a final judgement in a preview? McCaffrey got called out. He even quibbles about a ridiculous 0.1 of a score. Angry Joe can be OTT and play's up to the cameras too much but as he is an outsider from the main channels he isn't afraid to say it how it is.

I know publishers take an active interest in review scores, but I think you underestimate how concerned some gamers are with scores. You've only got to read the comments on a review and you get stuff like:

"Only a 7? This read more like an 8".
"Why have you only given this a 6? I've played it and it's easily a 7".
"8! Better than Halo!"

And heaven forbid a review gets posted with the score missed off.

Some people seem to take it as a personal insult if a site gives a game they like a score worse than what they deem it to be worth. Some people are genuinely only interested in a review score, and don't read the text at all. Metacritic is that mentality in a nutshell.

That's one of the worst, most suck up quotes from a games journo I've ever read.

We should migrate GRcade to Flarum. :toot:

Ah the old bullshit "comfy couch" argument.

Also £40 a year for a "community" full of 10 year old's telling me what a ****** I am and how much they've shagged my mum. And also Photek. Definitely the best way to enjoy Titanfall.

Representative of IGN in 'making IGN look stupid shocker'...I would have said had IGN not looked stupid now for what is almost the best part of 2 decades.

The biggest problem I can see with Joes claim is treating IGN like some kind of credible independent review site instead of the "box quotes R us" PR appendage it so obviously is.
