No More Heroes (Switch) - sometimes dated but mostly fun

Dynamite Headdy (NSO) - will probably drop now. Way hard without way loads of much investment - even with the rewind function it's too nails

Buddy Simulator 1984 - Kind of mixed about this, though I think that's mostly based on my mood. I had lot of fun up till RPG battles section, which isn't bad at all - I just wasn't in mood for that. Hopefully it's not long section but I did enjoy up to that a lot, the quests bit was fun.

Smackdown 2 (PS1).

This game is still great.

Red Dead 2: Picked it up cheap recently but I'm bouncing off it really hard at the moment. Main character feels very unresponsive and there are just way too many systems than is necessary. I'm sure it's excellent, I'm just not sure its for me.

Carrion (Switch)
As mentioned in here previously, you're basically John Carpenter's The Thing, trying to escape a research facility. It's a fun little game and the creature moves great, but the grabbing mechanic is a bit finicky and some sort of map would have been nice. It does feel like I'm flying through it, must be around half way already.

It is fairly quick to get through, yeah. But I liked that about it. Definitely short and sweet.

Night in the Woods (PC)
Only played about hour into it so far, and I'm liking this more than I thought. Feels like much more than just "walking simulator" visual novel as there's stuff here and there where I can jam out tunes on bass, play some game on Mae's laptop and getting to know Mae's hometown as well the stories is nice to get into. Will take my time with it as I've noticed it took some people up to 15hrs to 20hrs to beat/complete, and I intended to fully complete it.

Persona 5 Royal - or tutorial hand holding the game.

I know it’s a 100hr+ game but it’s been painfully linear and forced so far (6hrs). I understand it has a lot of systems but it could probably introduce them a bit quicker. I recall P4G was similar but I haven’t played that in years so maybe I’d forgotten. I know once the actual RPG gets going I’ll love it, though the script is. Very cringe. I mean the opening has you defend a woman from rape and somehow you end up with a criminal record and everyone hates you like you were a murderer?!? I mean the way characters speak to you is unbelievable especially the guy supposedly acting as legal guardian.

It's a bit of an anime/manga trope but a simple misunderstanding can actually lead to a criminal conviction in Japan, their legal system is very much a case of an accusation often being enough to convince a jury to declare a guilty verdict regardless of actual evidence.

That’s madness especially as the woman victim in this case would have been able to corroborate his account. I’m assuming they waited for police or else how would rapist have known who he was? This whole plot point is so unbelievable and yet is crucial to the story set up.

Darksiders Warmastered Edition. Played this twice before, just a solid game.

Still playing Carrion, pretty sure I'm close to the end now but progress slowed a little as the last couple of levels have been a bit trickier and the maps a bit more awkward to navigate.

Also, maybe I'm just a bit thick(!), but there were a couple of things I didn't realise you could do. Only found out when I looked up where i was stuck -
didn't know you could regain your biomass by eating it :fp: and tried for ages to get past the sticky-mine thingy without realising it required a new ability I didn't have.

Half Life (Steam Deck)

First time playing this and I’m really enjoying, just a fun, well made FPS that still holds even after all these years.

Doki Doki Literature Club (currently free on EGS). Still one of the most terrifying games I have ever played. The tone of it and clever use of glitching etc is second to none.

I'm now at the Black Throne in Darksiders. This has been really enjoyable, despite some flaws it has.

Darksiders 2 made me stop playing years ago so I will give that go again at some point.

Kinda put Night on the Woods on hold as I've been playing Dave The Diver (PC) lot more over last few days. There's some annoying moments but as whole it's wonderful, loving it so much.

I just acquired this (from EGS).

I'm assuming the anime cuteness is purely to hide the horror unfolding behind it.

No spoilers (beyond what I have already posted), but play it, I think you will like it. If you want a rough idea how long it is -

It's really quite short.

Beaten the story and saw the credits rolling. Not done with it as I want to go for all achievements, but it is wonderful game. Happy I've given it a go.

The optional stuff I can take it or leave it, but I'm having fun anyway so may as well try for all achievements to mark it fully complete (for me)

Resogun
Finally got around to having a proper crack at this on the intermediate difficulty, and made good progress up until the final level, which I just couldn't get past. It's a bit annoying that you have to complete all levels in one sitting for the game to consider you having beaten it. Would be much better if it just ticked off the individual stages and let you resume any time. I can probably do the final level with enough practice, but having to beat all the previous levels before trying again to actually complete the game is a bit frustrating.

I ended up downloading the season pass as well and getting the extra ships, modes, and the soundtrack (which is brilliant). The new modes are a mixed bag. I like some, not others, and feel indifferent about some too. I think it was £6 though, so not horrendous, and I think this will be a game I keep coming back to for a good while.

Pro Evo 2018
Enjoying Master League on this and chipping away at that. Love having a football game to dip in and out of. There are a few little quirks from previous Pro Evo games (almost any tackle you make is a foul, sometimes you get 'caught' on opposition players after a tackle and are unable to reach the ball, etc) but for the most part it's great.

Driveclub
Really impressed with the visuals on this. I like the variety of events and the range of cars (and bikes, but yet to play with those), but I wish there was a bit more progression in the cars you drive. I'd like to have started out with a banger and work my way up, but instead you're just immediately thrown in Zondas, Ferraris, Aston Martins, etc. Not a huge issue by any means, but it detracts slightly from the experience of driving some of the flashier cars. I like the range of objectives in different races and events too, but so far at least, it rarely seems like you actually need to win any of them - just getting top three or top five is enough, along with other criteria. I'm also not sure how much of the game I actually have access to now that they've blocked downloads of additional content (seems odd that you're not even allowed to buy it) but if it's purely multiplayer content (in which case it would make sense that you can't buy it, as the servers are off) then it doesn't bother me. Hopefully all the single player and offline modes are still accessible. I like it overall though.

Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition
Started this last week and have only put a couple of hours into it so far. I like the visuals (again, looks really impressive) and the general gameplay loop is fun so far. The UI and menus are a bit of a mess, but otherwise, little to complain about. Hopefully I'll get more stuck into it this weekend.

Toree 3D
Not sure how to describe this. It's like a PS/N64-era platformer with speed running elements. It's very short (think I completed it in less than half an hour) but the idea is that you keep replaying levels to complete them in as quick a time possible and therefore get the best ranking. It looks fine, the soundtrack's great, and it controls reasonably well. I like the bizarre, slightly horror-esque elements to it as well, but some of the levels are more annoying than fun, and I'm not sure I'm that desperate to get the best rankings on each level. It's good, but I'm slightly confused by all the 'Overwhelmingly Positive' reviews on Steam. For what I paid though (79p) I can't really complain.

Ended up carrying on with Toree 3D in an attempt to get all the S ranks. Once you're in the mindset of getting them, it can be quite compelling. I've got all but one, now. Last one's a right bitch.

Also started the following:

Quake
Ehh...it's okay. I've always wanted to play this properly, but it's just not grabbing me for some reason. It's fine, but not as enjoyable as something like Doom, and just seems to be lacking something. I'll keep going though, it's okay to chip away at a level at a time.

Flow (PS4)
Hmm. Again, seems fine I guess, but I played through it once and already feel like I've seen everything and have no desire to go back. I might try and get a few trophies, but can't see myself spending long with this one.
