Playing an ironman game of Xcom Enemy Within and it's brutal. I'm not sure whether to laugh or cry at my current situation.

I've only got 4 soldiers currently able to fight as I've recently lost some of my best troops in recent fighting. I have new recruits joining in 2 days and the rest of my troops are all in the hospital. I've got 2 pretty important missions that need to be done asap before I miss my chance but all I've got are a couple of middle of the road heavies, a new mec and a complete rookie.

I'm going to have to go on the mission, I think. If I don't, I'll still have my soldiers but in the grand scheme, it'll set me back by quite a way and the last mission, in which 3 of my top soldiers died, would've been for absolutely nothing. If I go on the mission, I could potentially lose even more soldiers and gain absolutely nothing but I have to hold on to the hope that that doesn't happen and we survive.

If anyone comes home alive, it'll be a huge victory.

I love this game so much and the little stories you end up making for yourself.

It's a superb game.

I only use soldiers who've previously been badly injured as MEC troops as it seems more likely that they'd be willing to lose limbs than completely healthy troops.

Hyperbole. It isn't that bad. Good, but not great.

Only thing I ever used to do in Roller Coaster Tycoon was design ridiculous roller coasters where the launch speeds were too high etc. to kill the punters.

I used to find it so harrowing as a kid when there were casualties! I had it happen unintentionally on this playthrough, and had to be a soulless CEO trying to brush it under the rug...took a while for my park rating to go back up!

The witcher 2 (360)

I thought this was supposed to be good :| Bought it a while ago and have been saving it for a good session based on the praise it gets, yet it looks gooseberry fool, plays gooseberry fool, the dialog is crackly and it's like playing dragon age but fighting in real time.

Is it really worth sticking with or should I just delete it? I've got countless other games to play that I know are great.

Final Fantasy XIII.

I had a save of a couple hours in from a few of years ago which I continued from last night. Had absolutely no idea what was going on, but I don't think it matters much. Beat Odin then switched it off for the night. It's okay but the battle system is just so, so strange.

I'll persevere though. I like the look of XIII-2 and Lightning Returns much more so looking forward to getting to them.

Steamworld Dig.

Bloody brilliant game. It's getting its claws into me quite expertly. Actually fell asleep last night with images of a little digging robot happening in front of my eyes. It's been a long time since that happened with any game.

Not saying it's more than a very solid 7/10, but I am enjoying it a lot.

As far as mechanics go, that game is completely sound. It really could have benefitted from having more structure. I really enjoyed it as well. They were talking about a sequel not so long ago.

Got a couple of Civ mods and I've been playing through them.

Firstly the Earth mod, basically the map is earth and each Civ starts roughly where it would in real life, ie Vikings civ in Denmark/Sweden area. The mod I got allows up to 24 Civs at once which makes the game brutally hard especially in europe, middle east/north africa or asia.

So I went into it as a Random, got givn the Americans which was really lucky as you avoid most of the european landgrabbing, endedup winning via a space victory, was fun.

The other mod is a bit weird, it's a LOTR map pack and LOTR Civs, kinda works but is a bit ugly.

The oppressed are allowed once every few years to decide which particular representatives of the oppressing class are to represent and repress them in parliament.

Still playing through Knack and TBH, thorougly enjoying it. I had read reviews that said it is difficult, so I chose to play it on easy. The first boss I came across on chapter 3 was a bit of a bitch, but when I worked out the strategy for defeating him it was fairly straightforward and I'm currently on chapter 8. One slight concern is that I've not found that many of the "secret rooms" and therefore haven't yet constructed one gadget and I'm not sure if there is enough left of the game to actually get enough parts to complete one gadget. Having said that, I may very well play through this again if the items you've collected roll over to the next play through.

So short summary so far, I really don't understand why this picked up such lacklustre reviews, it has been very enjoyable and a good launch title, something I am much prefering to KillZone. Of course, if it suddenly becomes a bitch I will be back here complaining.

Yes?

Started Knack last night after picking it up for £15, seems all right, nothing amazing, but enjoyable at least.

I think I'm going to give up with FF XIII and start X HD. It's just a bit shite, isn't it?

Managed to beat that. It was an interesting game for all the wrong reasons.

XIII-2, played until the final area and realized that I hated it and didn't care about the outcome. At least XIII has awesome battle music.

Dynasty warriors 8 (PS4) - more of the same from Koei, yet still find the subject matter interesting after numerous entries to the series. Will take a lot of hours to platinum which I foresee becoming a chore

Spec ops the line - Nolan North edition

It's been sat on my HDD for ages thanks to plus so I thought I'd give it a go. It's pretty good actually, I like the squad ordering even if they so take forever to take down someone you single out. Dubai is a refreshing change of location too.

A bit too much.

Wind Waker HD - Got annoyed so stopped playing it so moved on to...
Grand Theft Auto 3 - Got stuck so stopped playing it and moved on to...
Tomb Raider - About half way through this, so figure it's a good time to start another game so about to move on to...
Elder Scrolls Online.

No wonder I never finish anything. :(

Had a mission go proper tits up last night in Xcom Enemy Within. I probably could've salvaged it but the first soldier to get shot down was one I named after my fiancee. She was also a pretty powerful soldier so emotion took over and I scrapped my current plan to try and send people to revive her before she bled out. As a result, I lost two more of my best troops and barely made it out alive. The three soldiers that survived are all in hospital now with serious wounds and I'm mostly left with an army of squaddies.

On the plus side, I'm earning a decent chunk of money each month now so when I actually get some resources together, I should be able to buy some decent upgrades and weaponry. Just gutted about that last mission. :(

I'm done with South Park: The Stick of Truth now. I finished the game earlier in the week but I've just got the last few trophies and bagged myself a new platinum :D
