Women's 100m Final up next, we have an outside chance. :o

A tough field, mind. Gold will go to the US or Jamaica, no doubt.

Some of it is sexism simply down to the fact that why bother with the women's when the athletes in the men's 100 are faster.

I dont know why, but that sounds strawberry floating incredible.

I categorically disagree with this. Women race against women so comparisons with the men are irrelevant.

Of course but superstars draw interest in sports...i.e. Phelps so wouldnt do any harm if we had a few women with such name value

But it isn't a woman's fault if the media isn't drawn to them, is it?

It's far less do-able for a woman to go out and win multiple golds, because we just aren't built for sport in the same way that men are.
I've (obviously) got a massive aversion to anyone saying there isn't talent in the womens game, when the women at the Olympics are the best in the whole world. It's completely ludicrous to say the talent isn't there, when it evidently is.

Okay, time to breathe and post in a different thread...

Maybe a different agrument, but i dont think multiple gold equalls Olymics amazingness. Phelps is not the best sportsman ever to grace the olympics, best swimmer for sure. I Think it hard to compare different sports and genders in the same breath. Maybe shooting/archery/equestrian an all that, but an abundance of medals in a field where there are lots of medals for doing the same with different technique, is hard to compare to a field where there are a few medals for doing differnet things with the same technique.

Christ i hope that makes sense.

She did well. She outdone herself coming 6th so its another success for us really even if we dont have a medal to show for it

I love how you take that for granted, like it's definitely going to happen.

He has the potential, but if you look at every other 100m runner who has raced the 200m, the fastest time recorded is Tyson Gay 19.62, from a guy who has a PB of 9.7x on 100m. It is a much longer sprint which requires endurance to continue to maintain that speed over the distance.

If he does end up breaking it, he certainly won't "smash" it.

Yeah but Bolt's main event is 200m. He was in two minds whether to do 100m apparetly so he isnt a 100m runner doing 200m, its the other way round

Phelps is my hero for the sole reason that he eats up to 12000 calories a day. Bolt is another hero now for his amazing performance in the mens 80m sprint!

The guy who just won the Men's 10,000m looks like Carlton Banks.

Read the middle part again.

For the record, I think he'll probably break it during his career at some point, but I don't think it'll be during these games.

The Womens 100 was a little lackluster. Well done on Jamaica for getting the gold and two silvers but 10.79. Over a second slower than the men, I wonder when the last time that happened was (probably Athens but it still seems like a lot)

Incidentally who set that 10.49 because several of the previous best women sprinters were found doping so I have no idea how old that record is.

You don't know Flo Jo? :o

She did what Bolt did yesterday, blew away the competition and was practically untouchable.

I just think that women are less adaptable to different distances and styles (in order to win multiple medals at one Olympic), I think the history of men winning multiple golds (or multiples of any colour) compared to women proves it.

I don't think women are any less adaptable to different sports, they just have more of a limit on how much they can participate and train without undermining their performance. Even training for one event can be exhausting so you can't really blame anyone for that.

Ohuruogu still looks to be in with a shout for the gold, though.

Her technique on the last 100 in the semi-final was beautiful, specially compared to the 2nd place runner.
