I barely have time/can be bothered to watch YouTube anymore, I've cut down my channel subs massively and it's normally on the TV anyway so ads are something to just deal with; I either skip asap or mute the TV if they can't be skipped.

One thing i have noticed is that ad revenue has dropped quite markedly of late (it's literally half of what it was 12 months ago), i think there are a number of factors at play (including world events) but one thing i have noticed, is that when i upload a short, the view counts on my regular videos seems to drop.

I honestly have no idea why that is, but it's really starting to put me off of posting YT shorts.

People have zero attention span, the only reason shorts exist is to give people their hit before moving on. Why watch someone walk around a lovely city for 25 minutes when you can have smash cut after smash cut of clips in 30 seconds, punctuated with BIG CAPTIONS OF WHAT PEOPLE ARE SAYING.

HEY GUYS OK SO *CUT* WOW LIKE THIS *CUT* IS TOTALLY LIKE AMAZIGN *CUT* AND *CUT*

and so on.

Well it's certainly not helping, I recently filmed an in depth vlog of St Paul's Cathedral (filming inside used to be forbidden but they've now relaxed the rules), I put an enormous amount of time and energy into it (climbing 528 steps to the top of the dome when still on antibiotics was no easy task), yet my view count for that was pitiful. :(

I have and I'm repeatedly getting the messages. My adblocker if off, I'm getting ads and I'm still being hounded by Google to switch off my adblocker. Between the intrusive ads and the intrusive messages about turning off my adblocker that's already off I'm about ready to wash my hands of Youtube

Vermi, I have noticed lately just browsing Youtube there are now tons of content creators doing the whole 'footage of walking around places'. It could be it's just becoming saturated and that's affecting views.

Youtube shorts are the second worst thing about YouTube after the ads

It probably doesn't help, especially since a lot of the people doing them are using expensive gopros & gimbals which are way beyond anything i can afford.

I don’t really have any problem with this. It’s so quick and easy to skip YouTube ads that I barely notice them anyway and I’m happy to have them to help the people I watch on YouTube make some kind of a living.

I remember you remarked on the video quality of a video I posted ages ago. That was just (I say just) a gopro with the image stabilisation turned up, no posh gimbal or anything, just the bog standard shorty stand you can get. Maybe you can find one for a reasonable price now the newer models are out (mine is a hero 10 black).

Only downer with relying on image stabilisation alone is it's quite aggressive when panning and can lock on to things making the pan quite lumpy.

I'll have a look around, but it will probably have to wait as i'm still trying to save up for a PS5.

I'm glad that youtubers tag their shorts videos with #shorts so I know I'm watching a short and not a regular video truncated and turned sideways.
