GRcade Replay: Game Suggestion Thread

Seeing as how this is a brand spanking new forum, and therefore a new beginning for the historically empty retro forum, I think we should endeavour to make this forum more active than previously.

Therefore my idea (which I have stolen from other forums naturally) is to do a regular series of threads titled 'GRcade Replay' whereby members of the forum replay a classic game and we discuss our thoughts in the thread, which would hopefully result in some interesting debate about how some apparent classics hold up today.

The games themselves can be anything on any format (provided of course that they are retro, my take on retro being anything prior to this gen) although for obvious reasons the response for some obscure Japan only PSone game may not be as good as something which most people are likely to own.

So the template provisionally would be one game a month, which would allow those taking part plenty of time to play through the games if they wish and allowing participants to fit the replay around playing current games or other hobbies or interests.

So, any thoughts? Is it something you'd be interested in? If so, feel free to suggest any games in this thread and we'll see what kind of response we get.

Suggestions so far include:

Crash Bandicoot
Crash Bandicoot 2
Rage Racer
Kurushi
Tekken 2
Super Mario Land 2
Perfect Dark
Alien Resurrection
Shining Force
Super Mario World
Yoshi's Island
Sunset Riders
Pocky and Rocky
Zelda: Link to the Past
Grim Fandango
Monkey Island series
Ape Escape
Super Mario 64
Super Mario World
Turok Dinosaur Hunter
Shadowman 64

Sounds good - hopefully something I've bought but not got round to playing yet will crop up.

We could have a book club, but with games :)

That's pretty much the idea yes.

Now why didn't I think of describing it that way.

This reminds me of the 'Gaf Plays' threads that NeoGaf does.

I'd be up for it, we need moar retro love!

It's also done over at NTSC-UK, but they include last-gen games as well.

It sounds good to me. I nominate the first game to be Crash 1 or 2! ;)

Great idea, I'd be up for this. A good excuse to return to some old classics.

I've got no idea what either of you mean.

Anyway, looks like it's a goer then, so leave your suggestions for games (pick say 5 for starters that you'd like included and we can see what comes up).

As I say in the OP, anything up to last-gen is acceptable for me unless anyone thinks otherwise.

Right what I'll do is I'll update the op with suggestions and leave the thread for a few days, then we can do a poll to decide what we play first. Unless there are any objections?

Great idea for a retro Topic. I'm glad we can include PS2/GC/Xbox1/DC titles, too.

However, I'll suggest:

I'd be up for this too.

I'd recommend Shining Force, Super Mario World, Yoshi's Island, Sunset Riders, Pocky and Rocky and Zelda: A Link to the Past. Grim Fandango and the Monkey Island games would be great, too, but I'm not sure if everyone will have those.

Or Ape Escape/ Mario 64.

That'd give me a reason to fire up the poor neglected N64. I didn't get very far into the game first time round.
